Talking Vislor Visit

Just thought I would update you with Diesel's visit to Vislor. We had a great time they are fantastic facilities and Travis & Ash were very friendly and I came away with some really helpful tips.

The main thing is that I need to reinforce my commands with Diesel a bit more and mean what I say and if he doesn't listen make him do it. I also need to ensure that the little things are done consistently (ie when I am talking to someone for example and he is told to sit to ensure that he doesn't get up of his own accord and start to pull me away) he will sit until I give him a release command etc.

Ash brought out Tilly to see how Diesel would react to her running around next to him - he didn't bother at all and actually looked at me

Tilly gave us a wonderful demonstration of heelwork etc - gorgeous dog.

I also saw Ash's puppy and some of the really young puppies still waiting to go to their new homes - they were absolutely stunning especially the one that ran off with my keys

All in all a good day and I will be going back for some more sessions to try and get some better OB work out of Diesel as Travis said that we had done a great job with Diesel

On the way back it was such a nice afternnon that we stopped at a country pub for a late lunch - sat outside in the sun with Deez and he just lay down and didn't make a sound - he was an angel!

Sorry about the pics guys just too busy trying to take in all the advice next time I promise x

Ahhh Gail thats a really nice thing to say!

We really were impressed with what you've achieved with Diesel and all we can do is help you fine tune your training to bring him up a level in obedience, which will make him more focussed and bring him closer to you, which is ultimately what you really want.

Gail REALLY doesn't give herself enough credit for her dedication and what she's achieved with her dog and underestimates the trust Diesel must have put into her being a rescue dog with a difficult past so I think a round of applause for Gail and Diesel is in order!

It was really good to meet yet another lovely member of the myGSD forum.

Hope to meet many more

Ash.

Thanks Guys and thank you very much Ash I cant wait to go back but now will have to wait a bit as today at training Deez went and cut his paw quite badly - he had some glass in it and I dont know how he did it!

I rushed back from training as it was bleeding quite badly and I posted this thread whilst I was waiting to go in last at the vets! He is limping and feeling sorry for himself.

He will hopefully be fine in a couple of days

Oh no!

Its always more disconcerting not knowing how they did it.

Hope he gets better soon.

P.S. We also really enjoyed meeting Nat, Gail's friend who's been helping with Diesel's training, always good talking to a dog trainer who has a similar mentality to us
