Puppy class or not?

I have always taken my dogs to Puppy class and followed through to adult hood and beyond.
However this time round I have done things differently and not done puppy class (after a lot of research) and im getting much better results in all aspects of training

I think that if I had classes that were a whole lot easier to get to, I would have started puppy classes, and still be there today, because I think that training classes do a lot more that simply train a dog, by simply being there with other dogs they not only learn things that humans want to teach dogs, but they also learn in a more natural way learning things that we have probably never even thought of.

Add to that, the fact that our dogs are our `hobby` [ for want of a better word ], training classes are as much a club as they are a class,..if you like, a virtual forum, ...here we learn through the written word,..in a class you will learn things through seeing, meeting, trying out and experimenting

i was determined to get Rogue to classes, but couldn't find a good one in the area so she was 'home schooled'

True, we're still making mistakes and its as much a learning journey for me as it is for her but we're getting there! I often wonder if we are training each other half of the time........

I never had the opportunity to take titon to classes but after taking skye i have noticed a huge difference in her behaviour.
I hope to be able to continue further with her, i'm hoping skye will be more responsive than titon is, although he does as his told, he does it in his own time.....

We still take Jazmin training every week.
She started training at puppy class as a very young pup, straight after her second jab.
We keep it up mainly for socializing.

I'm hoping to continue on with puppy classes for a good while longer yet, and straight after that class is a German Shepherd club which does ringcraft an obedience work so we've been staying a little while to watch that with the hopes of maybe's joining in or transferring to that club :-)

I enjoy taking them both to their classes. As Stuart said, it`s like my hobby now, some people go to the gym and exercise class, I get to go to obedience school and lots of outdoor dog walking

Infact, it`s time to recharge the headtorches

This is very Interesting to hear your opinions and Thank you for them
I have found the opposite really, home schooling Link (in the sence that she only attends schutzhund and there are no other dogs being trained at the same time) and socialising her by being out in various places and obviously being around the boys! I have found her very responsive to me! And not so much to distractions
All I have to do is call her once when out and she is there (not that she goes far from my side) I am very blessed! Where as the boys dont always come first time
I think for me having those distractions in a class enviroment proves too overwelming for a small pup as this was the case for the boys
I also have a special whistle (using my lips and voice lol) and all of them come running
Link is doing fantastic
I must stress though that teaching Link this way it is so so important to socialise with other stable dogsand allow them into every place/situation you can! Nothing worries Link she is a very confident, happy not so little girl
