First Class (not really)
Jax and I are heading off to a class tonight, we're going to give Dog Training Centre of Excellence - Home of Dog Training in Essex a go.
We think Jax was taken from the litter too early and never really learnt to play (he's a rescue), I've convinced the trainer to let him into the puppy class. hopefully he can learn to be a playful pup too...
We've already been along to a brilliant weekend class in Guildford through www.doghouse-training.org but it's just a little too far for us to go weekly. We did the puppy class and Jax did very well and learnt a lot. Glenn and Ana are briliant and would recommend them to anyone in the area that wants to learn more.
Because my parents have him during the day I am asking my father to come along to the training as well. Despite being the one that grew up with GSDs I think he needs the most training.. hahaha (better not tell him that)
well I'll let you know how it goes...

Puppy class sounds great for Jax. My Jerry is a rescue and I don't think she was ever properly socialised with people or other dogs, consequently she is now nervous of both. We had her at 3 - 4 so it was a little bit too late but have tried to gradually socialise and is getting better by the day. Jax will have a great time I'm sure and it is so important he learns to love people and other dogs.
I bet they will all love Jax he's so handsome! Enjoy!

thanks guys, the last couple of walks he's been playing a bit more, once with a collie and another time with a lab and a boxer... he's just a bit shy... poor mite...
Emma, find a social walk near you... guarantee your Jerry will love it... )

well first class done.. was ok...
I think i might just look into the 1 on 1 classes for him, I don't think that in the whole class situation suits me (as opposed to him). Although the socializing was great!! He will be going back just for that part. The instructors did seem very knowledgable... I'll be sending the father back for his training next week too.

I was trying to think of the exact reason before... and I couldn't put my finger on it. Its nothing against the class itself. I could see that people were enjoying it. I think its just me and that i'd rather a more relaxed class.

Ah ok, so it was quite a formal class then? I think having fun whilst you train is actually really important and relaxes you and your dog.....perhaps another class might suit you better.

I'm going to give it more time, Jax was really learning to play which is important...
Plus he's bigger than all of the others so its not like he can get hurt... hahaha
