I do like the sound of the `pet corrector` with the loud hiss, and I think if I was in the city that is something I would look to getting

The problem you have JC is that for a while you will be taking out a pup,..so you could of course think to pick it up,..that I think is a bad mood, because once the pup is in your arms you cant protect it because your arms are full and his back legs are still in range of the attacker.

If the dog was older, then the best thing is to probably let your dog go and let it defend itself, or run away which ever it wants to do to protect itself,.... but you cant do that with a pup.

So for a while you have very limited options,.. leave the pup on the floor, move infront of it towards the attacking dog, and use the spray,....[ I say spray, because its probably a better idea that the No command,..its after the dog not you ]
I probably wouldn't pick it up but stand in between both dogs and spray the attacking dog and hope it runs off. I found retractable walking sticks on the internet so I might get one of those. I just want to be prepared. I keep reading of more dog attacks lately.

Well, after reading so many positive positive comments about the GenCon, I have decided to buy one for Diva to see if it makes any difference; she walks fine on the Halti but it tends to ride into her eyes and she starts then to fidget and try to take it off so it can be a bit of a rough ride sometimes and with my OH being sick at the moment (and we dont know how long he is gonna be ), it's down to me to walk the little Madam so need something quite efficient to make the walks enjoyable for the both of us!

I'll let you know how we get.

By all means try a gencon, but in the meantime you could try clipping the lead through the ring on the collar first, then clip it through the halti ring (so your lead clips the two rings together). This stops it riding up into the eyes as much, but still gives you enough power steering!!!

I don't use a headcollar on any of my current dogs, but did use a Gentle Leader many years ago for my first rescue GSD, who wanted to kill all dogs that came anywhere near her! I found it to be useful when I was out walking her but I don't think they get to the root of the problem - ie they manage a problem, rather than cure it. For some owners, that is absolutely fine as they just want to enjoy stress-free walks. However, I continued to train her on a check chain back then (going back about 14 years) and just used the Gentle Leader when I needed extra control out on walks.

None of my current dogs would need a headcollar, as I do spend quite a bit of time training them to walk on a loose lead, and they actually spend very little time on a lead at all as adults - due to where I live being so rural and quiet.

It sounds horrendous where you are Pam I would hate to be concerned about loose dogs attacking me or mine every time we went out
