You've just reminded me of what he was like when I first saw him. I'd almost forgotten! He was quite nervous - growling and snapping at me on the end of the lead and my first impressions weren't good. He also barked and bared his teeth at all the dogs I introduced him to.
He's totally different now! He's got no problems being introduced to new environments, he's great with other dogs and doesn't snap at strangers anymore. I think its partly because he's matured a bit over the last couple of weeks but I also think structured training gives them a calmer mental state and overrides all that nervous anxiety that would have otherwise occupied their thoughts. You give them challenging new things to learn, which gives them no brain space left to dwell on negative emotions.
Its the same thing I learned teaching in the Summer Camps in America. Best thing to do with homesick children is to keep em challenged!
