Problem barking

Hi, I'm new to this so if this question is up already let me know. I have a 11 month old German shepherd boy named jet. We got him when he was 10 weeks old. Me and my wife love him to bits and he knows we do. We have socialised him well and take him on regular walls to a park with other dogs. When we take him for a walk he always barks and yelps and pulls on the lead. He is not aggressive in any way at all he just wants to play but since he is so big every other dog owner gets really scared and walk the other way. How can I get h to stop barking at other dogs?

Thanks

Andy

This video shows you how to train him out of barking/lunging when on a lead:

Do you walk him on a normal collar/check collar/head collar/harness?

Max barks and lunges at other dogs when we are on walks. I am trying to train him out of it but its very slow progress. I have to have him on a halti because I cannot control him if I just use his collar and he sees another dog, he has too much power in his shoulders and just pulls me along.

Does he get a chance to play with other dogs whilst out?

I would turn and walk the other way if Diesel was doing that and then when he's calm I'm turn around and walk back again....praising and treating for all calm and quiet behaviour.

I will try the first bit of that video as that looks helpful the 'lets go' and turning away we already do to varying success.
He was goodish on his walk tonight, I kept him distracted from some of the larger dogs and although he kept looking back he did keep walking when some behind us were barking. He even kept walking when there was a dog a little way off behind us although again he did keep looking back before catching me up (he was on an extendy lead and halti) The problem was when a terrier was coming towards us and we couldn't turn back. I tried something new...I got him to sit and treated him for sitting patiently and all was fine until the terrier actually passed us and then he started to lunge and jump about to try and get free of my grip...he scared the hell out of the girl walking the terrier! I had to pull him away as soon as I could. It was worth a shot

I use a small lead which has a small loop at the end which you put the opposit end through to make a kinde of choke coller with. this sits at the top of his neck round the back of his ears and it works well, i dont pull it to choke him i have it lose by my side and as he pulls he chokes him self and then lurns to sit by my side and not lunge but still barks and can not be on a normal lead yet.
