I have to say I do know of someone who's used this collar with great success on a rescue Malamute with food aggression issues and more, however it wouldn't be something I would want to use but each to their own.

Sorry i agree with the rest, im a really beginner at this, my gsd is 16months and of course i think hes the worse behaved dog in the world, but slowly making progress. We have a halter, canny collar, muzzle and harness, none of which keep him by our sides. Although he still doesnt walk by our sides i found the stopping and turning the other way works, although a couple of neighbours did come out and asked what the bloody hell i was playing at lol. Now when i stop he automatically goes into reverse. It has taken all of his life to get to this stage, but it does seem to be working, very very very slowly.

Ok, I now know everyone has their own opinion, and i now know they are banned in Wales, I live in Devon tho so I CAN still use one, and I think most ppl have failed to notice that I said my dog WILL chase anything that runs, and I mean anything, doesnt matter if it is outside or in the house! If my friend visits with her little girl I will NOT risk him hurting her, even if it is just playing to him.

The E Collar is working well for us at the moment so I wont stop using it yet, and I dont know what happened with the dog who had one who was chasing sheep ie: I dont know if it looked like a bad experience for the dog, but I can say that on the good quality collars you have tiny increments so there is no excuse for zapping the hell out of the dog, and a good command shouldnt be seen physically!

If anyone has advice on helping to stop chase instinct problems I would be interested to hear them, but so far the only thing that works is this collar, not his halty, not his regular collar.
Eventually he will be EC free once his current training is over and he has picked up what he should do.
PS just realised im down as having a puppy, hes not he is 5.

I do not like ecollars at all and honestly feel that 9 times out of 10 training from an early age will prevent unwanted behaviour. However, some years ago I was talking to our dog trainer about these collars and he was telling me about a Golden Retriever, who's life was saved by using one of these.

She kept getting into a field and worrying sheep, and the farmer had threatened to shoot her if she was seen to be doing this again.

I firstly blamed the oner for not dog proofing their garden, but it appeared that they had spent a fair bit of money trying to do this, and she was digging to get out. They were desperate when they contacted the trainer, and within three sessions of using the e collar, she was cured!

I have to put my hand on my heart here and say that if using one of these awful contraptions prevented my dog being put to sleep, or killed, then yes I would do it. However, I do believe that they should be used under license only, and in the hands of an expert. I do not believe that they should be sold in shops at all. And, I HATE them.

I have been lucky in the respect that I have never needed to use an ecollar but in certain circumstances and with right guidence they possible could produce good results. Myself personally I hope I never have to resort to the use of one (living in Wales its a no go anyway)

If the ecollar is working for you and as you say you are now able to walk your GSD with confidence then it obviously is working for you.


Ps you are classes as puppy due to number of posts you have made not age of dog. My dog is only six months old.
