I know what you mean. I want to find a Trainer for Sully but with my circumstances being the way they are it is so hard. I can see me not getting him into classes til he is 2 by which point my children will all be in full time school

He does spend alot of time with Dogs on the field where I live so i guess he isnt missing out on socialising, and even the little dogs play with him the owners dont mind.......Now.
I never thought about him reverting back to his old ways, by going back to class, doh numpty alert. Plus reverting backward at his size now would be mega, i wouldnt be able to handle him, I use brains not brawn with him already haha.
I may have to look even futher afield for a trainer who can push him futher as he gets older.
But yes he has come good, and had great advice if i have had the odd issue with him from everyone on here.
We have got time to keep looking, but i guess i had given up as good ones are few and far between, the nice trainers on here live like forever away. and none of them will move down to here, lol, I have asked them to move near me.
But for now i cant ask anymore of Dalton for his age, but want to plan ahead if that makes sense

I would keep going as you are and make enquires with some trainers and see if you can find someone.....

Yes I think I should give me head a wobble, My first trainer when we did the puppy foundation course was APDT. but didnt handle Dalton well for demonstration purposes, but i noticed she did handle the collies, springer spaniels, cocker spaniels well, but i guess some trainers prefer smaller dogs, just like some vets do.
She was a nice lady though

Working GSD's in a class environment with their owners standing close is HARD work, they are so very loyal and quite often will whine to get back to mum/dad! Rarely will I use a dog like this to demo with, it isn't fair on the dog!
Many other breeds will willingly go ahead and show you what they're made of in this situation, but not very often will the Sheps go forward happily!
You could also try COAPE, most are trainers and behaviourists, so if you don't get lucky with the APDT, try CAPBT:
CAPBT - COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers
You're doing well, but in all honesty I wouldn't go back and attempt to adapt , at the end of the day this is your dog, you have worked hard to get him to this stage, going back to someone that you weren't happy with could be D's undoing! Not to mention that many 'unqualified' trainers think their way is the ONLY way and often will not adapt to suit you, this, IMHO isn't the kind of person I would want advice from, let alone training!

Have you a local GSD club? They are dotted around, I never knew there was one local to me for a while....I have been to two now, one in Norwich and the one here in Ipswich, both use toy motivation for training or food - what ever works best.
Good luck.
p.s I wouldn't go back somewhere that isn't right for him and you, you don't want to undo your hard work. Plus the trainer should have listened to you and offered advice not just cast you aside.

Hiya, the nearest BAGSD club is birmingham, which isnt to far away on a good run, but on the motorway on an evening if you get stuck a 40 min drive can last like 2 hours unfortunately. In Telford there are a handful of trainers, of which they are ok but not into working dogs really, They do classes but its normally for owner who really just want there dog to sit, stay, they do the Bronze award then they are happy with there lot. if that makes sense. Whereas Dalton needs little jobs to do to keep him sane.
He was on house arrest for a while and near the end of it, his old behaviour started to surface, and The Beast did emerge for a little while, till we got back Training again
