Whereas Dalton needs little jobs to do to keep him sane.
He was on house arrest for a while and near the end of it, his old behaviour started to surface, and The Beast did emerge for a little while, till we got back Training again

If you can't find one suitable to your needs then I would go it alone. Get him tracking and searching too, that will make him think and tire him out!!

Yeah i think your right, I am formulating a list of things we will work on, I have to do one for Kane anyway, although he isnt a worker, He will just need tidying up really, he is happy playing, he doesnt have Dalton's drive. But even so he needs taking in hand, so he is obedient, but in a normal way, He is much slower than Dalton picking things up, but as soon as he knows what to do he is great, and will do anything for a bit of sausage, cheese or anything edible really.
Kane is a people pleaser, Dalton likes to pleas himself, unless its worth while lol. so very different in personality considering the cloesness in age, and size lol

Hey Sarah,

Dont go back to the old trainer hun, you are doing so much better on your own.

Also its like you say, Dalton is still socializing with other dogs so its not as if you would benefit from going to classes in that respect.

Personally Sarah, IMO I think that your doing a fantastic job with Dalton.

What about, & this is only a suggestion, lol. Getting Kim to take Kane to a training club, you could go with her ,& see if you can pick up some different idea, or views from others. You may also find that chatting with other dog owners that they may be able to recommend someone local who would be willing to help you on a 121 with Dalton.

I find that quite often that there are dog trainers out there who dont necessaraliy have all the qualifications, but are good with certain breeds, are more open minded, dont advertise, & its all just word of mouth.

Maybe I`m grasping at straws Sarah .

You could be right Jenny, Dalton is doing great, its just what to do with him next, interms of traing, we have been working on the PDF's from the kennel club for the good citizen schemes, but without a trainer lol, just doing what needs to be done for the various awards so to speak, I may google some other training techniques too.
Hmmm got me thinking now Jenny

He wont do a stay with me out of sight, i think maybe thats his age, and he is a mummy's boy, they have to do a 2 minute stay, which isnt a problem at all, but as soon as i go out of sight he breaks it lol

Yes, I use to do that with Harvey at training classes. The assesor said that he passed, but then she said to me that he didnt really deserve it , which really upset me ! I didnt say anything to her as I was so taken aback, & she was a bit of a Barbara Woodhouse type, lol.

To me he passes or he fails WTF hey ! I never went back after that, lol.

I think he will do his stay with me out of sight when he is a little older, we keep working on it but he breaks it the second im gone, but because we arnt doing it officially with a club, i guess it doesnt matter.
At the moment we are working on his heel off lead too, but i dont think he is close enough to me to pass that yet, so walking to heel off lead and his stay with me out of sight need work, the rest he is pretty good at

xx
