Help please.

Since I have gotten Lakota, I have tried to make sure that he is used to everything around him.. The I got him I took him to my place of employment at the time. Carried him around the park that we live at. So on. While in the house, I put a light lead rope on his collar so that he would be used to that as well. Cause I wanted to take him on NICE, GENTLE walks when he got a little older... I have NEVER had this problem with any other puppy that I have ever had.

When we are inside he is ok with it.. He just lays down... Thats it. Wont do ANTHING. wont move, just wont do anything... But you take him outside on the lead, he literally goes nuts.. Wont potty, he'll just thrash around, get mouthy with me, everything that I dont want him to do.. Then we will bring him in the house and he poos or pees somewhere in the house.. Help please.

I have tried giving the treats, I take his stuffed animal outside for him, anything that he enjoys I try it as a treat for good actions. But it never ets that far. Why?

I would love to try that.. But like I said when we're inside he lays down... When we go outside, complete opposite!! I praise him when he does good for everything else. Like the fact that when he forgets, and mouths on me, I say ow, he stops licks and sits... I tell him good boy and give kisses on his head. Or when hes running and I tell him down, he stops and lays down... Kisses again... The drop it we're workin on have been workin on since the day he came home to us. But its the lead that he HATES.. And I dont want him getting hurt, and I cant take him to our family farm until he learns it. I dont want to always be taking Heidi and not him, thats way NOT fair to him

Have you tried just putting the lead on but not actually holding it or walking him? Let him move around with the lead dragging behind him, praise when he moves and treat him so he'll learn that he can move freely with that on and then build it up from there....soon the lead will mean good times.

I agree with Claudette, no matter how the dog throws himself around, just walk, if he drops down keep going, he will soon get up and walk, once he is walking praise him,... but while he is thrashing around you are not in control.

Its only because its a strange feeling having the lead attached to him, its new and maybe even scary to him,..once you get him walking he will realise that its not going to hurt

Instead of taking him out himself on the lead take Heidi out with you both, let Heidi run free, hopefully he will follow her and forget about the lead x

How old is Lakota?, can you not attach a line to Heidi and let her guid him around, you say he lays down when in the house and has the line on, does he not walk about when it is on him ?

While we are in the house, I put it on him. I dont hold. I wanted him to get used to it, that way he knew that it wasnt a bad thing. I just let him walk around. But he just lays down. he wont get up to walk around or anything like that.... I try to get on the floor with his toys all around me, with treats, stuff like that. And I call him to me, but he wont move... I know its not heavy, its nylon and hes 5/6 months old.

As for letting him outside without the lead. If I lived anywhere else I might think of it. But there have been a couple of dogs beaten badly... And I cry just thinking of it... I dont even let heidi out without leads. And I know she comes back when called.

When we have taken him out to the lake, on the weekends. We try to do both, with and without leads. He comes back, and I trust the people that live there. I have known them since I was a little girl. And I let him off the leads. He is AWESOME... he'll run and play, once hes worked that all out of his system, he walks with me.. He stops, sits, and sometimes shakes paws. But the moment that you put that lead on, he does it again.... starts thrashin and goin nutty.

We've had heidi on leads as well, figured that he would see that she didnt have a problem with it, then maybe it would rub off on him.. He doesnt calm down enough to see that it wont hurt him..

I love him with all my heart, I want him to be happy. But I have to have the lead on him every once in awhile. There are places that I would like to take him that I think that he would enjoy, but I have to know that he can be on the lead with no problem.

Might be worth trying a harness rather than attaching the lead to a collar?

Try putting the lead on him when you are outside and walk away, I bet it isnt too long before he thinks you are going and will probably run after you

Personaly I wouldnt worry too much about the thrashing around, if you let him do that and work out his frustration, he will eventualy tire and settle down,...then would be the time to pick up the lead and walk, but while he is thrashing you dont stand a chance.
