Dawn, training classes are really very important, not just because Elle will learn to become an obeidient dog, but she will learn so much more, the most important is she will learn to become socialble with other dogs, she will meet different people and see different things,...life really starts for her at these classes.

Pleased that you are doing so well with Elle,.. and enjoying it all

Stuart

Glad to hear she is doing well. Most dogs that age love to learn, its great.

I'd make enquires with your local dog training centre just now though, some have quite long waiting lists and its best to get your dogs name down early. Socialization is SO important for dogs. My GSD wasn't at that age (when she was with her previous owners) and she has missed a vital part of her development. We rehomed her at 18 months, when it was too late for that and it has taken a great deal of work, time and patience from both myself and my partner to deal with this issue. Even at 18 months though, we took her to the local dog training centre, specifically to help her with this issue.

You want to get her there while she is at the appropriate age, it is so much harder if you don't.

Good luck though, she looks like a smasher!

I have a problem where this is concerned, we live quite remote, and normaly I doubt I will see another dog in a week of walking, except two kenneled dogs on a farm about 100 yards away, so when it does happen I have to use all my powers as leader to control any miss-behaviour.

There is a dog training place in Fort William, but that is an hours drive there, an hours training and of course an hours drive home, and its not always practical to do that, I did take Kee in the begining, but for one reason or another I missed many weeks.

So what I try to do now, is as often as we can, when we go shopping for instance, we take them [ indervidualy] to the Fort and walk the streets, this has proved a success as far as people are concerned, and is work in progress with dogs, Sam and Kee are o.k., but Jazz needs a little more attention.

So I suggest that anyone who does have the chance to use these dog training groups to get yourselfs to them, because the problem is harder to solve if you dont
