Put newspaper on the mat? I used to buy the training pads that worked better for mine, they'd just shred newspaper.

I don't know, the penny just seemed to drop with them. My girl was much harder to train than my boy

Sorry I'm not much use

Move the paper to outside the door.

Personally I would stop using the paper during the day & night (whilst you are awake), I would take Marley out every 20 mins, or after play, eating, sleeping and try to encourage him to go outside by using a command 'be quick'. I found by taking Diesel out reguarly and using the be quick command when he looked like he was about to do something really helped.

Personally I dont agree with the paper thing. I think its confusing you teach them to pee on the paper and then have to teach them to go outside.

I have always done the constant going outside to try to get them to toilet and praising them when they do.

The confinement thing definitely works at night if you can do it.

But I shouldnt pay any attention to me though I obviously dont know what I am doing if you read my other thread!!

If you still want to yes put the paper down or you need to get up in the night and take him out.

OK so I too am a newby, but when I got Mishka I felt that to give her paper to pee on (Which is how a friend told me to train a puppy) was kind of like saying "yes it is ok to pee in the kitchen" With watching Mishka like a hawk I soon got to know when she needed to go! With in two weeks she was good all the time day and night.

I have never used paper either, just keep putting them out all the time!!! Friend of mine trained her lab to use paper to toilet train, she finally got him peeing outside by putting the paper outside for him to do it on. Only trouble was, he was just over a year old and one of her kids had put some paper on the floor to do some painting and the dog went and weed on it! Despite being house trained four eight months or so! He saw the paper and thought that is where I can pee!!

Awww I remember the days of dashing outside with my legs crossed trying to catch the puppy before it peed in the house!!! Or carrying a peeing puppy outside only to have it stop when you get there!!
