Troy and psychological issues?

Hi All,
An update on Troy, took him to the vets today about his rear end issues.
His right side gland was a little swollen and George got some fluid out which he said is infected):
So Troy is on antibiotics for 6 days.
He also had a good feel inside and said everything felt normal, checked his hips and looked at his tail no probs.
He thinks it psychological why Troy doesnt like his back end being touched and only could suggest light sedatives to relieve his aprehension at times when neccessary like when he does his gold kc award(he will need to be felt all over and when he did his silver he nearly bit the assessor! She said if he does that again she will not pass him.
Any suggestions on how to correct this other than using drugs
Oh I must say that Troy was castrated at 12 months and has been likethis since

Have you tried clicker training with him?

Then practice with different people 'going over' him with you clicking and treating him when he does not react.

Yes I have yet he will only allow me to go over him without growling or becoming extremely unhappy
Im trying talking to him and giving him a massage to help him relax a little but this is obviously a slow process.

Oh poor Troy, sorry to hear he's not happy about being touched on his back end. I guess it can only be done slowly and hopefully you can build up some positive association with his back end being touched by someone.

Will he take a treat whilst you can touching him there??

ClaireandDaisy will become famous soon enough
What I did with a dog who didn`t like being touched was to sit with him every evening and gently stroked him under the ears (the least threatening place. As he relaxed, I extended where I stroked, and eventually he learned to accept it. And even like it. He will now let me touch him all over.
But it needs to be at the pace of the dog.

I'm doing this with Archie, really slowly. He hates his forelegs being touched. I think it is because he has sore elbows. So I start with his neck and begin to massage there. And then I move down his back a bit, and do between his shoulder blades. And then I do his shoulders, and then I do his elbows really softly, and then I move on to his forearms and finally his wrists.

Can't go straight to his forearms though, or he'll jump and give me this look like, "why'd you do that?!"

Hi all
Just a quick update.
Ive been massaging Troy every night all over starting at his ears and working down to tip of his tail.
He isnt flinching or startled anymore as I think he is used to me talking to him whilst im doing it bless him.
He is getting better but its going to take some time.
He is also taking scullcap and valerian tablets rather than sedation tablets from the vets and this seems to help him also.
Thank you for everyones advice

Linda x
