Suprelorin Implant

What is Suprelorin® and How does it Work?:

Suprelorin® is a sustained release biocompatible implant that contains the active ingredient deslorelin (gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist).

Cylindrical implant - similar size to a microchip
Presented in a pre-loaded implanter with actuator supplied
Implant is placed subcutaneously between the shoulder blades – no anaesthetic required
Deslorelin is released from the implant (proprietary lipid mixture) over a well defined profile
Due to the prolonged release of deslorelin, GnRH receptors within the pituitary gland are desensitised. Consequently the production and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) are impaired. No FSH and LH means no testosterone and this means no sperm (See diagram below).

Sorry couldnt paste diagram.

Kaiser had the implant this afternoon at 5pm He was very well behaved and dint relly flinch at all. The Implanter was slightly bigger than the one used for a microchip.
Will let you know what happens with his behaviour.

Linda

Kaiser's dominance towards other dogs really, I have heard good results from other owners of dogs that have had it.
He isnt aggressive, great with Kids and People.
Its the testosterone fuelled dominance that I want to stop with him.
At least the implant only lasts 6 months so im hoping for good results.

This is what it says about it

Testosterone Behavioural Problems:

Certain behavioural problems are driven by testosterone, namely roaming, inter-dog aggression and certain sexual behaviours. Castration may not solve 100% of cases. Suprelorin® can be used as a ‘road-test’ for that response that would be seen without undergoing permanent surgery. If a favourable response is seen castration can be carried out or Suprelorin® can be continued.

I do Obedience and showing with Kaiser and I cant allow spats whilst in close proximity of other dogs.
I also want to do agility with him but seeing as the dog is offlead he would be running over to every dog he meets and that cant happen
I always look for the warning signs and usually give him a gentle warning before we approach other dogs on lead.
What I dont get with him is he is so nice when he meets other dogs sniffing, tail relaxed and seeming friendly then suddenly tail up like a husky and snap, hes pinning the dog down grabbing hold of the dogs neck or back with his mouth and being very growly and noisy.
To me its dominance and hes not actually hurting the othe dog but to others he's killing their dog
Gsd's have such a bad reputation round here and im sure lots of places.
I know the implant is not a quick fix and may not help at all, Training is the key I think and he attends 3 sessions with different clubs each week, we also enforce this at home and when out and about.

Linda x

Thats exactly right Charlie,
I use my voice telling him to Leave and give him a quick pull on his half check, we then approach with a nice loose lead, and if he has a go then I pull him away saying Leave in a very firm voice.
If nothing occurs then he gets lots of praisebut no treats.

He pulls forward and tenses up his hackles are up and he eyeballs, usually with a growl, sometimes barking.
He knows the leave command well, I use it to take toys, food ect away, so he knows it.
If I give him the command to watch me it doesnt work as he is usually so focused on the other dog who sometimes eyeballs first.

The watch me command aint all that tbh it works for some but not for others depends what diversion ur using it for.
So really ur boy is already tense b4 he encounters then ur command of leave takes place what i suggest u do is dont let it get to that stage at all keep diverting him b4 he takes on the role of im here so to speak or the eye balling.
Is he into his balls?
