Socialization
How did i forget to mention this.
Yesturday i took Jess for her daily walk, My friend has a puppy masstive age 3month old ( The only surviving pup out of 13 ) Called Solo, As my friend brought Solo out of his house Jess was going mad and i mean mad, lunging barking, crying, growling...
I thought this is a bad idea but she has never interacted with any dog or animal of any sort so now was the time, We walked to the near by field. (Jess was going mad lunging on the way to the field by the way)
We got them on the field left them on their leads and made them sit opposite each other, My friends dog is dead layed back and calm and just wants to play, Jess was being a bit snappy at this time, after about ten minutes of reassuring her that all is fine my friend let solo off her lead, She was a bit unsure off Jess at first but then started to get closer, Jess then started backing away and then pouncing ( Playing) So we thought oh what the ek all seems fine so I let Jess off the lead...
Very suprised, Jess took to Solo straight away which i didnt expect and they played and chased each other all the way around the lake, I was so happy that she could get on with others...And also a strangers dog ( Which i was not happy about) Came bounding over off the lead and straight for Jess, She didnt try to start a fight with it and they just played (To my relief). All was well and all 3 off us walked round the lake for a couple of hours without any situations of any of the dogs
So Jess made 2 new walking buddies in her first day of socialising.
I was so proud of her, even though she did jump in the lake and got really dirty, but oh well she deserved it
Sorry for the long winded thread

Glad you all had a good time Liam.
Dogs can sometimes be a bit "agressive" when on lead because they feel they cannot escape and get a bit het up. Might explain her reaction at first.

Awwwww bless
The only thing I'd have done differently is to not make them face each other but rather be side by side, making them stare at each other could cause a confrontation.
But well done you + Jess

I always find if I walk Diesel leaded for the first 10mins near the new dog then let them go free together this makes for a much calmer meeting....xx

When Linda`s dog Kaiser met my lot, we had arranged to meet on nutural ground, and also agreed to let them meet without leads [ on my lot ]...I must admit that I was a little worried at first, but then remembered that although they have always got on well with other dogs, there has always been a lot of lunging and pulling, barking and growling before any meet on lead
I let my dogs meet Kaiser one by one, starting with Sam, followed by the others one at a time,...and I must admit, it was as perfect a meeting as we could possibly have hoped for
So the idea of dogs meeting off lead does have some very good credience,.. but you have to know the dogs,... it is certainly something I learnt, and would concider doing it again.

Yes sounds like good advice, and also like stated when the strange dog came bounding over, Jess was not on her lead either but at the side of me and they give each other a sniff and then played for a couple of hours, cant wait get home from work and take her to her friends lol

Diesel is better meeting off lead - if they are on lead I will do as Lynn does and walk them together in the first instance for about 10 mins.
