urinating on the carpet
Sacha has been with me for 18 months now, I rescued her from horrible conditions.
For reasons best known to herself she has been urinating on the carpet, same place all the time, we have never caught her doing it so it is difficult to "scold" her for it.
can anyone help with this please and has anyone any idea how we can rid the carpet of the horrible musty smell, we have bought all kinds of things but the smell remains

Have you tried biological washing powder? It worked for me when we were having trouble getting Dempsey to stop weeing indoors.
The problem is, of course, that unless you completely get rid of the smell she will keep going back there.

Only thing I can add, if you've got wooden floor under the carpet, you need to give this a good scub as well with the biological washing powder, it may be better if you able to easily is to replace this piece of wood..
Apart from being attracted back by the remaining smell of the previous urine, it may be that she feels safe at this point..
Jones the German Shepherd/Corgi cross in my avatar he's a rescue and he won't go toilet anywhere where he doesn't feel secure... When we brought him home it was days before he went to the loo and then for months afterwards he wouldn't even go in the garden unless mum was there to hold his paw...
We've used this to guide us as we built up his confidence levels and it's only in the last several months that he's confident enough to actually cock his leg to mark when we are out and about in his usual haunts..

Caryll
He's come such a long way in the 18 months we had him, When we first had him best way to discribe Jones outside was agoraphoic, sound, movement, shapes, humans etc all sent him into flight mode in a nano second We weren't told or even realised the severity of his issues, as when I meet him he came straight over to me sat down gave me the 'please take me home' eyes then jumped up on me for a fuss, and boy did he enjoy being fussed He now enjoys walking to the park and meeting his mates, he's still weary of strangers but this is slowly improving as we go along..
He's a real little hero and we have an agonising wait until least June to find out if Jones and Ellie nomination for the PDSA bevery award is success as they saved Dads life... He went into a diabetic hypo, not only did they guide him to a safe place near to home before he collasped completely, Ellie sat with Les, and somehow Jones found the courage to come home to get me When Jones showed me the direction to head, when we found Les he was in a diabetic coma and suffering hypothermia...
My brother whose a retired paramedic worked out from Les's body tempreture etc that we had Less than 20 minutes to get medical help to him, they are my heros I just pray that the PDSA see them in the same light..

I think I remember you posting about that! Wasn't it on the local news as well?
He looks such a gorgeous boy - full of character. I hope they get nominated, they both deserve it so much!

I had to remove the actual carpet one one occasion with one of my previous dogs - I still dont know why she did it - it could have been a pet from the previous owners of the house.
Anyway once carpet removed - never happened again?????? A bit of an expensive option though but I was changing it anyway.
Jo - great news about Jones & Ellie -let us know x x

Blitz liked to wee on the carpet before he was toilet trained, can't help you with how to stop it but we found this really helped with the smell, it is a foam you spray on the carpet and it dissolves into it, kind of like carpet febreeze, smells lovely and only a couple of quid from wilkinsons xx

gorgeous dog
I had a similar situation with Zennie - 6 months when he came to me and not had a good start in life
First - even if you see Sacha doing it - don't scold her - just take her gently by the collar, completely ignoring her (don't speak to her or look at her) and let her out in garden - shut her out then clean. Don't give her any attention at all - don't even look at her (or she will learn that it will get her some attention).
Just leave her out for a few minutes than open the door - don't call her in or give her any attention for 5 minutes ( sooooo hard !!). She gets NO attention at all - doesn't even get to see you clean it up !!!
What I did - cleaned to get rid of smell using boiling water from kettle and plenty of it and mopping with a nice smelling disinfectant - then febreeze carpet spray. (Then, twice a day, morning and early evening - sprayed febreeze on the spot again till problem sorted.)
Then a few hours later, put a food bowl there with treats in. did that every day, then started to slowly move the bowl towards his feeding area. Took about 2/3 weeks in all, but it stopped it.
good luck with it
Gloria
