Leg humping puppy!

Well, we've had Barny for a couple of weeks( I will put some photos on soon) and he is quite a handful at times. He poses different issues to Misty, who was very shy and had to be coaxed out of her shell as a puppy. He is full of confidence. Misty is putting him in his place most of the time as he is always nipping her paws and tail but sometimes he gets so excited he starts humping our legs ! I have never had a male before, he is only 10 weeks old. Is this usual? We are starting training classes this week so I will bring this up then. I was just after peoples thoughts

Despite having a male, I never experienced this particular problem, so I can't help I'm afraid.

Archie was neutered at 6 months, and he never once mounted anything.

All of our dogs have been male apart from our now bitch Tilly

Yes humping is quite normal

No, neutering doesn't necessarily stop it

Yes they calm down as they get older

Hi,

I think that at this age it is more to do with play/experimenting than anything really sexual. I have seen dogs that have it 'bad' but it's been more of habit/attention seeking. My pup (14 weeks) has humped his bed for the first time this weekend - and boy, he was really into it. I think you should just try and distract him for now - and hope he gets bored of it. He's probably just like a little boy toddler who's just found that thing in his pants!!!

Diesel humped me once when he was about 5 months old, I folded my arms and turned away and he never did it again to me or anyone else

I have the same issue with Chaos, hes only 9 weeks old...

I swear that he's a rabbit sometimes and not a GSD.

I cant help but giggle at him though, surely 'its' just a part of their lives as much as it is ours (by 'it's' i dont mean dry humping lol)

I caught the lil bugger having pre marital relations with one of the missus' old collectable teddies the other day, oh how i chuckled.
