Strange Behaviour

Ok, this is a strange one my friend has 3 GSD's and a Rottie/GSD, 3 males and 1 bitch.

Two of her males (1 GSD and the Rottie X) have recently started 'fussing' around her other males 'lipstick' before a walk, they are either side of him growling at each other and the poor lad is stuck in the middle of them. She's told them to leave but they are both reluctant to move away and it's scaring the male whos's being fussed over.

Any ideas what this is and why??

There's a bit about it here

Dog Behavior Training: Dog Behavior Training - How To Stop Licking

My last SBT did this with one of Gloria's GSDs, that was definitely a dominance thing although this article suggests that it's a submissive thing. It's difficult to say without seeing them + how they are with each other on a day to day basis.

Could it be that the 8 year old is the most dominant of the three of them ? Does he seemed scared when they're dong it to him ?

The other 2 might be vying to please the dof they see as superior to them ?

Not really sure hun, but EEEEWWWWWWWW xxx

LOL...ewwww indeed!

Thanks for that, the dog they are doing it to is the lowest in the pack really, it's just weird that they've just started doing it.

I would get the dog checked out by the vet.

He maybe has a urine infection or something else wrong with him that the other dogs are picking up on.

If they have lived all their lives together it is unlikely to be a 'pack' or behaviour problem, unless something else has changed recently.

Thanks Sue.....

They did lose a GSD a few weeks back, she died of CDRM, could this have caused a change in their behaviour do you think?

Hi

I really dont know - but perhaps the loss of one of the dogs has unbalanced the pack structure??????? Just a guess.............and no doubt I'm wide of the mark!
