Males taking Liberties

Hi everyone, Just looking for a bit of advice. My boy Storm is 1 year old and lately when he plays with dogs . Males just take liberties with him , mounting him and chasing him and won,t give up . They looked posessed and whining at him. Storm is sooo placid but I can see it annoying him. I TRY NOT TOO INTERVINE ,and let him give them a row and he eventually does but the dogs persist. Their owners say their boys don't usually behave this way and really did not a lot too stop thier dog . My boy got the male implant not sure if this is sending a scent too the boys . Just wondered if anyone suffers this with thier dog and what do they do when it happens. I waited on thier owners too correct thier dog never happened and I ENDED up saying please take hold of your dog this is not fun for mine and as placid as he is I don't think he will take this much longer . They struggled getting thier dogs they were as though they were in a trance . Storm however I said LET'S GO and he was at my side without a lead. Think he was desparate too leave really. I am trying too make sure he socialises with other dogs but worried that dogs behaving like this too him just might make him dislike them. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance x

I believe that this is not uncommon when a dog has had the implant - other dogs get confused because he does not smell like a male - in fact I have been told that they (implanted dogs)smell like a female and this is why unneutered males will try and mount them.

Thanks for your reply only two months left of this implant I think unless it lasts longer than the six months . I am going to have too find him some girls too play with then as it seems to drive the boys mad. I am going too eventually neuter him does that have the same effect ?

Neutering does not have the same effect on other dogs - I think it is the chemicals/hormones in the implant that causes the problems with other males. Once he is "done" there should not be the same problems.

My Boy also has the Suprelorin Implant (if thats the one you mean)
He had his 16th Feb and should run out in August. (6 months.)
I have to disagree though no males will attempt this with him infact he is the one who will chase them and try to mount /get on top of/dominate the males and is no problem with females. Kaiser is 2.3 years though I really believe this is nature rather than the Implant.

I've heard that this can happen, as the dog with the implant will smell 'different' to either an entire male or a castrated male.

Hi thanks for your reply, It was the suprelorin Implant Storm got. I am pleased Kaiser gets no bother. It was young males that seem to be overly interested one was 6 months the other few 8,10 and 6 1/2 months . Maybe an age thing for them but may even be that my boy is so laid back dogs take advantage. He did get very annoyed at one point and stood very tall and mouthed off at them which I have never saw before as he is sooo quiet but even after this the dogs persisted on his head at one point lol

Thanks for your reply I am not sure if it is the implant or the fact it was young males or even because my boy is soo laid back. Anyway should I intervine or should the owners of the dogs that or doing this do something or will the dogs sort this themselves ?

I would say its more dominance rather than the Implant
I think male dogs sence what we dont always see a weakness in other males, their are other hormones involved toothe way they look and the signals they each give off to each other plays an important part

I'd ask the other owners to take their dogs away. No dog likes to be humped continuously, and even the most placid dog will react eventually. Then, who's to blame for the resulting fight & who's gonna have to seperate them?

So inconsiderate - I never allow Dempsey to hump another dog, it's just not on!
