destruction? advice pleassssssssssssssseee
Hi everyone, ive posted a few times about my new german shepherd, about his background etc, hes not been brought up indoors etc, he was a outside farm dog, heres my new dilema, hes not been too destructive recently and i thought he wasnt going to be a chewer because hed been brought up outdoors etc. Last few days when we leave him for a few times he has started to chew the lino , pull it up off the floor! we excercise him before we go out, we give him toys and hwe has a d.a.p coller on and the plug in to help him settle,he has kongs(not interested 1 bit) nothing is working! he is 15 months old not sure what to do as most dogs are beginning to give up on chewing at a destructive rate by this age. what else can i do. I understand that its all going to be new, but i cant keep buying lino and bying him toys that he isnt using! he throws ghis water bowl over, pulls the lino up and has even destroyed the other dogs bed, she must be thinking what have i done!!!! any advice please???

how long do you leave him for?
is it possible for him to live outside again? do you have space for a kennel and run?

Zeus was chewing Walls when we left him. I started by ignoring him completely for 10 mins before putting my coat and shoes on then sitting down. Done this 3-4 times a day then built up to leaving house for 5 mins-same procedure-no contact or speaking for 10 mins beforehand. Gradually build it up by 5 min each time- the dog then learns that you will come back.... It takes time and lots of patience but you will get there in the end!!!

Do you fill the Kong? We only give Otto his Kong when we go out & at bedtime so it is a special treat for him to look forward to. We usually but a piece of frozen banana in it or sometimes put either cheese spread or peanut butter in it and freeze it
As for knocking his water ball over, have you tried a raised bowl so he can't get his paw into it to knock it over?
As for chewing, I found this stuff fantastic:
Bitter Apple 236mls Spray - £5.92
Hope this helps

How about withholding the meal (or half) due before you go out? You can then put that in the kong. Its worth a go. Hopefully then hunger will take over.

Sounds like he has free run and needs boundaries!
Crate him and buy a non spill water bowl.
Until you can try and leave him for short periods when you are there, try and catch him in the act.
Untimately I think its boredom, despite having toys ect

Would it be possible that you record a CD of your family while they are munggling around so that when you go out you can put it on, so he still thinks you'll about
