Never before have I screamed those words so loud and frantically...
I was in the middle of doing some cleaning when I heard a very hostile bark and growling from Abi... she was really going mental. I thought someone unknown must have entered the house as the back door was open. I grabbed the nearest weapon available... a tin of spray furniture polish, and headed towards the commotion.
Did I feel sick when I saw what was going on... a duck had brought her chicks into the house and Abi had blocked their escape. Anticipating a blood bath, this was when I started screaming LEAVE IT. My heart was in my mouth.
The duck and her 5 chicks were now attempting to climb the stairs... I told Abi 'back' and bless her, she retreated. After shutting her in the kitchen, I went to find the ducks. They were huddled in my bedroom... unharmed but scared. It took some courage, but I managed to usher them out of the house.
Forget the fact that my carpets were covered in duck poop

... I was both shocked and delighted that Abi not only obeyed me when it mattered, but she exercised such good self control (I always assumed that they naturally chase squirrels and rabbits and would end up killing them if caught).
Anyway... all that training of putting treats on the floor and telling her to 'leave it' paid off
