Red face Oh Dear

Well earlier i gave fritz a hock to chew on.. he took it to an area in the kitchen i didnt want it i was going to be mopping sweeping floor, so wanted him other end of the kitchen..

I called fritz pickup.. he did then walked towards me i then walked towards kitchen sink i turned then fritz started snarling and showing me his teeth.. i instantly thought wtf.. i turned away not facing then next min he jumped at my forearm 2 lundges for me then as i turned he tore my tshirt middle of my chest... my forearms all bruised tshirt ruined ..

he then grabbed his hock and took it with his head down could see out corner of my eye i was in shock. i vacated the kitchen.. and havent bothered to go in there again..

wtf do i do now????

If he knows you're scared he'll be worse. You have to get it off him + get rid of it. Can you entice him out of the kitchen with something else, then go in + get it?

How old is he?

I'd deffo get it off him, calm down, then regroup + think about the way forward xxx

I know it's hard but you have to be confident, call him out + if he tries to bring it tell him no or leave or whatever you tell him. It might take some time but that's the first step

Id do what Tracey suggested
Does your kitchen have a back door to the garden?
If so take a coat with you and use it to throw over him incase he goes to attack you, then try and get him outside obviously minus hock. Allow him to calm down before allowing him inside and never ever allow him to have anything like that again or you may be faced with the same situation.
He is obviously guarding his prize (as he sees it)
You need to go in strong and confident use your voice too

I'd do the same, use distraction to get him in another room and then remove the focus of aggression. Try to be as relaxed and normal as you can. Once the hock has been removed, I'd put him on his lead and do a training session with him to distract him from looking for his prize and refocus him. This is JMO, however you choose to deal with it I hope you sort it out soon x

I finnished my coffee and calmed down in the living room..

by which time he'd half eaten it.. the hock..

i walked straight past him and went to the back door grabbed his ball and called him.. he did come almost instantly like butter wouldnt melt in his mouth.. was all over me etc wanting i think a fuss.. i didnt i just made him *down for around 3 mins seemed like forever. then threw the ball and went back into the kitchen and removed remains of the hock..

hes almost 2 ive been painting downstairs glossing only had a small window open was raining this morning here.. could that have anything to do with it? bitch in season? ive noted last few mornings when hes gone to potty that his nose has gone in the air and hes been sniffing like somethings in the air..

ive not fussed him at all... ive just been out again and told him *down and got him to fetch his ball etc then come back in.. i wasnt going to take him walks.. till later

im fine just bruised im more worried for fritz like have i caused this.. my error somewhere. do i just ignore this factor like it didnt happen and not treat him with a hock again?

All it is is that the hock was obviously a very prized possession. There have been many threads on this some recently, + for me it reinforces the need to be able to remove things from your dog at any time.

You have to teach him to leave + give something up when you say he has to give it up, I don't mean taking food away for no reason etc, but he MUST understand that if you say 'give' he gives !!!!

Once you have that, he can have anything coz you'll be able to get him to leave it if he becomes possessive again. He can't go forever with no special stuff like he obviously perceives what he had, a bit of training + it will make a massive difference

Main thing is to be confident, very bluddi well done you xxxxxxxxx

What would you do if you didn't ignore it? You can't do anything so you have to move on + concentrate on the future

Let us know how it's going xxx
