Neutering

Hi

I expect you have had the same question many times but i was wondering if you get a male dog neutered do their whole temperament change.
Why i am asking the question is that Max my GSD is nearly 18 months old now. He is not aggressive to other dogs , he never barks when out, when we meet other dogs off lead he doesnt try to dominant them either if they are intact or not. He is just rather lively but he is only young and full of energy.

Many thanks for looking i look forward to your replies.

I had my first Male Troy done and he changed completely for the worse
Once a happy and confident dog now fearful. He was done at 12 months as advised by the Trainer and obviously vet. He is 2 and 1/2 now.
My other Male Kaiser will not be getting done anytime soon if at all he is 2 and 1/2.

claire_88 will become famous soon enough
My boy got done when he was 5, and it changed his temperament too, i cannot walk past another dog without him barking and growling now, yet before he was hardly ever on a lead whilst walking and had manners and was playful with other dogs.
I would be very reluctant to neuter any male dog i may have in the future.
However! All dogs are different and i know of dogs that have bin neutered, to be exactly the same as they were before. Just not mine

Our late Dalmation had alot of aggression issues and our vet recommended that we should have him castrated to calm him down...so we did after he attacked one of our cats, he was approx 1 at the time. It didn't work he remained aggressive for the rest of his life and the only other dog he ever tollerated after a very careful and lengthy introduction was Zeus. I don't have any plans to do the same with Zeus and wouldn't unless their was a serious medical reason requiring it.

Thank you for your replies.
I would hate it if Max's temperament changed as he is quite laid back. Just a little barky in his own house or garden.

Diesel changed for the better - hes not as aggressive and much calmer - it all depends on the dog and how old, etc.

Its a very personal choice but if you dont have any problems with him I wouldn't bother

sami is a jewel in the rough
I had Leo done at about 9 months. We had him back to us at 6 months and still had mum and dad (Max and Sami). We had problems with Max and Leo fighting everytime Leo got a little over excited shall we say!!! This stopped after we had Leo done. I dont think it changed Leo at all he was and still is a big stupid softie.
