"Dogtor Jeckyl and Mrs Hide"
Hi all, hope everyone is alright,I haven't posted for a wile but here I am with a new dilemma..the problem is sometime I think Maya has "multiple personality disorder"..don't know if this is normal behavior, anyway I'll try to explain :
When we are out for walks ,just me and her she is calm,100% recall,I can sit anywhere,in cafes, pubs, benches and she is fine.
When we are out with my 9 year old son and family she goes in protective mode and she is so difficult..she just about ok if we are walking, but if we sit somewhere..like picnics,benches..she doesn't let anyone near us..dogs especially..she will bark at anyone passing by..I tried everything..she'll stop for a wile and then starts again..for now is just barking but I'm so worried that one day she may bite.. just wandering if anyone has the same problem??

Sounds like a typical GSD to me...lol....they are protective of their family and she's just letting everyone know it.
I think you need to really work on stopping the barking as people will find this scary, it sounds like you have already had some progress with what you are doing, I think you need to stay consistant and show her that you are not happy for her to take control of any situation.

Agree with Lynn. I doubt she will bite but it is worth being vigilant.

Hi there
Has Maya been spayed? When we first got my Jerry her behaviour was a bit eratic. She would come over to be stroked love it for a couple of mins that snap. Somthing she was fine with one day was an issue the next. We had her spayed and she was a lot more level headed.
Just a thought, if not I have no idea

Yes she is very protective and every time I'm out with my son I'm very vigilat of whats going on around us..when she gets like that I tell her NO,put her back on the lead ..she looks at me with those guilty eyes but she' at it again ..and I do it every single time,I can even tell in advance when she gets like that by her body language so sometime i try and abstract her ,telling QUITE and then reward..it's hard work, though,as I can never really relax when I'm out in those situations..

Firstly, everytime I'm on this situations I constantly look around to see if someone is approaching us,dipends on the situation,if she is already barking I call her back, tell her a firm NO and put her on the lead,if she is already on the lead and I see someone I tell her QUITE in advance,if she is quite then i say Good Girl and give her a treat. Am I doing right ?

looking at her picture she appears to be English lines, what age is she now?
she also appears to believe she is higher ranking than your son - what age is he?
