Howling

This isnt a problem - I'm just a bit curious. Maybe once a month or so Darwin, our lab x howls during the night. Just once, or twice perhaps. And its a proper long pituful wolfy howl! We used to check on him but he was always tucked up in bed! No distress or anything, in fact he usually looks like we've just woken him up!

It's such a creepy noise in the middle of the night, really sends shivers! He did it a couple of nights ago. Why would he do it? Bad dreams?

Probably good dreams,.. the howl is the call of the wild, and is to keep in contact with other wolves

Interesting! I guess because it is such a mournful sound I thought it meant something bad. Thanks for the insight!

We only hear it as mournfull because we are human,.. but in reality it is a sound that carries over very long distances,... wolves are very rarely seen in the wild, but they are heard miles and miles away,...staying in contact with each other

Sometimes Remus will have what I can only assume is a bad dream - he cries in his sleep making a squeaking noise. Then when he wakes up he looks distressed and comes to find me before settling back down. No idea what that's all about.

He 'talks' a lot in the morning when he first sees me, makes a groaning howl type noise, not a bark and brings me a toy.

Isla is very vocal too, lots of grumbles and groans! Really makes me laugh! And she squeals when she is sleeping sometimes with her paws twitching - she must be dreaming of chasing rabbits! She has never howled though, that's Darwin's trick.

LindaM will become famous soon enough
Lukey isn't that vocal but he is getting little more so, they are quite a big range of 'strange grumblings' to get attention. He hasn't done a full howl. I know it's bit eary but I quite like the sound - probably not in the night though.

He goes 'off his head' when someone knocks at my door (not when he hears someone knock at anyone elses door) but rarely barks at all. I don't like what happens when someone knocks at the door as it it over the top.
