Rogue is a bully!!! :O

Its taken a couple of doggie walks to figure this out, but its official....... Rogue is a big fat playground bully!!

She chases other dogs toys and rough houses them off them, and then doesn't bring them back... she harasses other dogs into submission, especially pups and younger dogs and i noticed yesterday she was REALLY growling at this other younger dog... yeah they were playing and she was putting him in his place but even AFTER he submitted she was still on him! Wouldn't let him come back anywhere near his owner, out chased him to his ball every time (although he was wise to this in the end, he let Rogue go fetch his ball, bring it half way back and when she spat it out he got it and brought it back triumphant!)

She's been well socialised, not sure where this behaviour is coming from... could it just be that i have a dominant dog? She was always put in her place as a pup, other dogs seemed to either really like her, or really not and given her recent behaviour i can kinda see why!!

So, what do i do? Do i stop her from bullying other dogs or do i let them get on with it??

thats actually a good idea! She will leave if i catch her early enough, she can be quite aloof at times its really funny... she has mastered that cattish 'looks down her muzzle' thing!
Its sometimes too late when she is haring across a field and you're yelling 'IT'S OKAAAAAY, SHE'S FRIENDLYYYYYYY'

I feel like the mum in the playground with 'that' kid.....

Right I'm not having a nag here because as I've already said, not my business, your dog etc but I'm just thinking if she does this to the wrong dog, and has already b*ggered off and is ignoring you she might get more than she bargained for and get hurt.
When you shout 'its ok, she's friendly' if the other person yells back 'well mine isn't' can you get her back?
The reason I say that is because Jerry Lee is not keen on dogs he doesn't know, especially 'rude' ones lol and if Rogue did that to him it would end badly. Ouch. In this situation I tend to put him in a down stay and go out in front myself to block the incoming dog. They look quite shocked when I shout NO at them, kind of like 'jeez who the hell are you?!' but its food for thought if you get me.

9 times out of 10 her recall is good, but yeah i do worry on occasion that she is going to get hurt one of these days.
She's going through a funny behavioural phase at the moment, and i try to walk her when and where i know there aren't many people or other dogs about. Its not every dog she will approach like that, and like i say if i catch her early enough its usually ok.
I'm working on a 'fail safe' with the whistle and a really high value treat, like i said we're 90% of the way there, she just gets deaf from time to time!!

Sounds awful, but i would hope that if a dog isn't friendly then it wouldn't be off lead!

Depends on the level of control I think. For me, Jerry Lee has 100% recall and no matter what he is doing or has seen he will come back immediately so I have no problem letting him off as I can guarantee to get him back. I agree that if you can't get your dog back and it can be funny you shouldn't have it out of control in a public place.

that's it. Its funny, when you walk in a regular spot and you know all the other dogs its great, suddenly you go somewhere else and you forget just how important good recall is!

raffaella is on a distinguished road
Hi..Maya is not too good with puppies either so I don't let her play with them,I had to call a trainer to help me and in the last few months I went back to basic obedience training reiforcing the 'leave it ' command and recall,I'm using a long lead at the moment as well untill I'm sure she will come back 100%..is hard work but it starting to pay off..I only let her off with dogs she knows in safe enviroments..my trainer said to use a special squicky ball to use as to catch her attention and it works along with good quality treats..I also do a lot of 'focus ' work like the 'watch me' command..hope it helps..

I like the idea of that, although Rogue isn't toy motivated so it will have to be something awesome!
I like the idea of giving her some focus.... Looking at some distance work and getting right back to basics with recall. She's got it, we just need to work on it outside and amidst distraction.

zetstaff is a name known to allzetstaff is a name known to all
You need to stop her mate, one day she'll pick on the wrong dog!!!!!!

What Faye says is true, if she shoots off + does pick on the wrong dog + you can't get her back, you might be going home minus a dog

Get a longline + keep her on it till her recall is better + she's learnt some manners. Whilst you hope dogs that aren't good with other dogs will be onlead, so should Rogue be as she's not good with all other dogs.

Unless recall is 100% it's just not good enough, my dogs are less than half the size of the dogs on here, but they aren't allowed to go thundering up to dogs or people as they would be intimidating
