Encounter with a pyscho cat!!
My poor little man had a horrible encounter on Saturday night with the most aggressive cat I have ever met in my life!
I was walking both boys to meet Dan, it was about 5pm so it was dark, they were on the lead when we crossed the road and Diesel just started to freak out, he wouldn't walk with me, was really bucking on the lead, his collar up round his ears. I couldn't see what was causing the problem so tried to call him to me rather than dragging him - nope he wouldn't come - when out of the shadows came this cat, hissing, fur up, and claws out and coming towards us wanting to attack!!
Diesel was terrified, I have never seen him react in this way before, so much so he slipped his collar and ran into the road....my heart was in my mouth but thankfully the road was quiet. I tried to call him to me as I walked towards him, only to be followed by psycho moggy, who by this time was going for Oscar....Oscar stood his ground and was growling back, his fur on end. Diesel was too scared to come anywhere near me and was making the most horrible noises. This bloody cat kept coming at us, looking to attacked Oscar....I had to keep control on Osc whilst panicking that Diesel was loose in the road and try to lure Diesel back to me.
Thankfully these 2 "hoodies" came towards me and this lad offered to chase the cat away so I could get Deez.....what a star he was, such a lovely lad. He chased the cat off, even though it kept coming back for the dogs, and I managed to grab Diesel and put his collar back on. I couldn't thank that lad enough.
Now though I have a GSD who is beyond terrified of cats and I'm worried what will happen if he encounters another one whilst on the lead. He even refused to walk past a house where he remembed a cat lived!!!
Help! What or how should I deal with this?

Good dog Lynn!!! What an awful experience, for all of you!
Personally I wouldn't let it affect me, as much as is humanly possible anyway. Don't react when you see a cat again on walks, just keep doing what you did do.
It is fair to say that this ordeal is a rare one, and the likelyhood of it happening again is very slim. As long as both woofers are ok, that's really all that matters.
Now...about this cat...do you know who owns it? Although they can be sparky creatures, it's worth considering it may not have been well, so if you do know the owner, get them to take it to the vets for a check over?!
Hope this hasn't ruined futures walk for you!

It wasn't the nicest end to the walk I have to say...lol
I hope I never encounter this cat again tbh and I know my panic was feeding Diesel's, I will do as you suggest and ignore and keep his attention on me, just hope we're not caught unawares again.
I have no idea who owns this cat, it's not one I've seen before......
Thanks hun...xx

Poor Deez! And you!
I wonder if it was a stray Mrs cat with kittens somewhere? Having babies seems to make some animals go a bit crazy if they feel threatened.
