We had an assesment today with a new trainer, she provides dogs that are trained stooges for anti social / aggressive dogs. We met at 6, and just chatted in the field for a bit to give some background on ellie and how she is and stuff, whist doing this we had her on a training line so she could check the surroundings out and chill out a bit as she was a bit stressed n wound up lol .

After about 15mins she went and got one of her dogs out, a welsh springer called Candy, Ellie did her usuall laying down the comando crawling and Je-an told us to drop the long line and let her do what she wants, she was muzzled to the worst she could do was bruise candy, so we did. Ellie then went charging in at full speed and Candy told her off lol they had a bit of a squable for about 1min where ellie was being tooo full on and candy was telling her off, then after that ellie just stopped and started to sniff then they where cool!!!! we let them wonder n chill a bit then she took candy back and got wizzard a black lab out, eliie did the stalking again but this time she ran up to him then stopped her self and was less up in his face, they had a good run anout and a chase n a sniff so then Je-an siad she would get anohter dog out, came in to the field with cand and wizzard and 3 other dogs! Penny the poodle, Katie the springer and roman a collie cross so there where 5 of them all off lead, again we dropped the long line and ellie went charging in, had a bit of a telling off but after that she was cool!!!!! long line still attached but not using it, running about having a total blast with 5!!!! 5!!!!!!! other dogs!!!!!!!

She has never really been off lead before due to her behaviour let alone been able to run as part of a pack like that, it was totally amazing to see and well worth getting soaked to our undies in the rain for!!!!!!! It almost bought a tear to my eye as for the first time we could just walk chatting like normal dog owners!!!! n seeing her running about with such joy in her face was amazing!!!!!

We are meeting again on sunday for another walk in a different area.

Can anyone suggest some indoor activities to help keep Axel busy while he recovers from being castrated?

He was done last wednesday, but they had to cut up along his willy to find one undescended testicle. He has made a super recovery so far with no licking and no further complications, (sorry Logan x). But he still has until next week before the vet has said he can go back to his normal off lead walks.:hissyfit:

As he is feeling pretty much back to normal, I am struggling to keep him entertained and he is getting more and more frustrated. He has his squirrel kong stuffed every day and I spread peanut butter inside his bone and I've started reviewing his basic puppy training before he starts his bronze good citizen course.

What other things can I try with him?

Now doubting what we've been told? Signs coming through

Don't really know where to begin, could all be coincidence but something doesn't add and the more we spot, the more we doubt what we have been told by the rescue centre?

Opinions if you would on our thoughts on what has been told?

*Jess has a hip score of 6?* Subsequently been advised off here that as she is 9 months old, this is not possible.

*Jess is KC registered and the papers will follow from the owner?* I had a hunch we'd never see these as its down to what the centre have been told but were told last week they'd been posted? No sign of them. No biggie for me as she is a family pet, not a breeding animal but we would like to know her birthdate and maybe be able to trace her siblings.

*Jess is fine with Cats/Cat tested?* Funny that as now she has livened up a bit she wants to chase everything that moves and won't stop barking at them so they won't come downstairs and its a team effort to get them in and out at night without waking the street (she was fine the first night and couple of days)

*There was no homecheck?* - Didn't even register as a concern originally as I know we had done our homework and were as prepared as could be and expected differnt places to operate differently, but everyone i've mentioned it to since has been shocked? The fact that we went prepared as they were in need of space and brought this sad looking drenched muddy little mite home in the nice warm car the same evening after being there an hour also seems to raise eyebrows?

*She's been kept shut in a pub her whole life?* The fact that the pink dye from the damp leather collar has still not faded off her neck and that she was soaking wet and shivering would suggest to me that she had spent it chained outside, she's been in lakes since swimming and still dries off a hell of a lot quicker than when we collected her. Her reaction when my hands were raised over my head in a "oh help me god" fashion earlier when trying to retrieve the cats with her barking was to back off very very quickly with ears down and literally cower, spending the next few minutes looking very very sad. So my only assumption can be that some B*stard has beaten her too - Break your heart:sad:

*She's very sociable with everybody?* If this meant that she would bark at every person she met and every dog relentlessly, then maybe yes. Thankfully we are making real headway here?

Now i'm not going to give up on her at all if thats what the impression is, and the progress we have made is really positive after 2 1/2 weeks with her. It just seems as though some things don't add up and i'd like your thoughts before I call them again in the coming days?

How anyone ever gave this beautiful girl up in the first place is beyond me, and if my thoughts are correct I pity the piece of pond life that could mistreat her!

Thanks in advance

In the park today Merlin was playing with a staffie- Merlin found a squeaky ball and was running around squeaking it with the staffie chasing him.

Merlin wouldn't give the ball back, so i put him on his lead and took the ball. I had a the ball and the treat in my hands and the staffie jumped up at Merlin to play.

Merlin then had a pop at the staff- it was about 1 second of noise. I don't think he made contact with the other dog. As soon as the other dog moved back Merlins focus was back on the ball in my hand. He was obsessed with this squeaky ball.

I apologised and the other owner was fine about it.

We went separate ways and less than five minutes later we saw each other again and Merlin was fine with the staffie again.

Should I be worried? Was it just protective of the toy, or a doggy telling off, or was it aggression??

This morning he also barked at two dogs on the lead (sally barked first, then the two across the road, then Merlin).

New experiences for Diesel!

After a somewhat disaster of a holiday - loads more focus training and socialisation for Diesel!

We have now been to 2 mad and large UK Dog Agility events - Diesel absolutely brilliant, also 2 dog shows - and another event this weekend coming.

Yesterday the first challenge was - the cashpoint :ooh: Previous attempts have resulted in barking at people in the queue and really anxious behaviour so I couldn't let one hand go to use the damn thing! :o Today however - no reaction at all! he was even quite interested in the noise it made (the head on one side thing!) and didn't bother when a lady with a pushchair was right next to me!:ooh:

Challenge 2 - the pub!!! I was sooo proud of my boy - when we first got there he started to react a bit anxious but I grabbed the halti and quick marched him past all the tables - didn't even see the nasty corgi hiding under a bench until it lunged!! Diesel didn't react at all! Yipee!

We sat down - he lay down had his water bowl and I even got to order and eat a meal! he didn't react at the waiter or a couple of blokes who came over to see him and make a bit of a fuss of him:):)

I did get a nasty look form one woman when I told her child that she wasn't to stroke him???? (I have never had Diesel around children) but he didn't even react when they were running around past him!

The final bit walking him through the pub on the way out - not one step wrong!! I am so pleased!

Lets hope its not a one hit wonder!

Had Enough Of Irresponsible Owners and their Dogs

The last day or 2 every dog I meet at the park has a go at our 1 year old Sienna and Ive just about had enough of it! I walk her on a flexi lead in the park as she doesnt like strangers approaching her.
A mini Schnauzer would not leave her alone , barking aggresively and following us while the owner did nothing, she was in the fenced off kids playground and left it on its own outside it. Normally shes fine with dogs but it started to freak her out as it would nt let up.
Then I was walking her near home and a little JR type dog with an old lady went for her , the owners just laughed and Sienna tried to run away scared as she is nervous anyway. I said you think thats funny do you!
This morning I took her to the park and before I even got in 2 large white gs came bowling over to her being very aggressive and barking at her, again the owner did nothing just walked off and didnt even attempt to call them back, so I didnt go into the park this time walked around the block then came back when they were gone,
Then a young dog came over and was jumping all over her (Sienna was on the lead) ,she had enough and started to growl at it, the owner was far away and didnt call it back and was laughing. I had to push it off in the end.
Im worried this will put her off dogs as she has always been fine with them.
Shes fine if the dogs she meets are calm.
Its putting me off taking her to the local park, wondering if I should find somewhere else to take her.

My parents came to visit yesterday and brought their dog with them, he's Flys brother, all the dogs get on really well and play like maniacs. Anyway my parents stopped by my allotment on the way and picked up some veggies that I had grown and brought them up with them in an old soil bag. I put the bag in the kitchen on the floor and a while later I noticed that it had been peed up, I thought it had been done by Fly or Biggles, my parents dog, but my mum said she saw Tiki cock her leg up it! she didn't think Tiki had actually peed until I mentioned it. I don't know if it's because the dogs she spends most of her time with are males so she thinks she supposed to cock her leg too but it was really weird. I'm going to watch her closely now to see if she does it again.

Hiya all,

far from having a moan as usual, I thought i'd share our breakthrough!!!

She's always been too excitable to pay attention on a walk, but is now working for digestive biscuits

She sits when told, is waiting at the kerbs properly, has been off the lead where its deserted and recalled on the whistle when called, and we even managed to agree with another owner to settle her for a few mintues and then let her off to play with her Rottie/Lab X

Her behaviour is starting to settle at home too with her sleeping in a different room during the day, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel after the past 2 weeks which have been a bit stressfull to say the least.

We even left her for nearly 5 hours (not intentionally that long, traffic was awful) while taking the kids swimming, and she settled after only scratching the door frame, and pulling the curtains down. Not too bad

GSD panics outside - help

New here - Our neutered GSD/Wolf-hybrid is just over two years-old and was rescued from a shady breeder who threatened to kill him (he was only six weeks old at the time). We brought him in and he was somewhat aggressive with us for the first few months. He has greatly improved with training and is the best pup now - except when he is outside.

He was socialised extensively from the moment he arrived, but now he jumps up on some people walking by, remembering his socialisation as a pup, and others he will go into a complete panic mode. Some people sadly laugh at him because he is so big and is trying to flee the scene.

I've spoke to the vet to explain that in the last week he is so full of blinding panic that he will pee, but not fulling eliminate outdoors - because he is so scared he wants to come back inside. The vet tells me no medication is needed to calm him because "it's his temperament" and that he will "just adjust." It is putting a strain on all of us to see Xenos so fearful.

Oh and despite a lot of training - he still pulls outside too. Walking him is a nightmare. People must think we're nuts - we are calmly walking and he is going mad. What do we do? Are we alone here?

What sounds bothers/annoys/frightens your dog?

Dylan seems to be very tolerant of everything, except high-pitched squeals, like that of a firework, or something like a mortar shell (war movies, mind, I live in Bristol, not Beirut!).

He barks at those, and if he hears another dog barking he will respond. He also barks if he hears what he thinks is a knock at the door. He used to bark at doorbells, when we lived in our old place. He has since learned that our new place has no working doorbell, so when he hears one on the telly now he ignores it. I can trick him, though, if I knock on the wall or the table he instinctively jumps up and runs to the door lol

We've just come in from Jess's night-time walk round before bed, and she's just been attacked again!!!!!

Stupid young chavvy girls with their stupid Staff, off lead, and seem to find it FUNNY when it runs across the road and goes for Jess' throat! the poor dog has just gone off yelping and came off worse after she fought back and has probably now got my bootprint on its head somewhere (cos after last week, I ain't sticking my fingers in between again - In goes the foot).
They didn't even cross the road to retrieve the dog?? and waited for it to return limping.... Poor Jess is being a complete nightmare settling in without this crap.

Last week, over the field, a different Staff with a differrent chav in tow, went for her, bolting over , teeth out and straight for the throat, owner nearly 100 metres away and still sauntering over as Jess has his dog pinned to the floor and i'm trying to pull them apart
Has the cheek to ask what IM doing with Jess sat down calmly looking away and his dogs neck under my welly going ape after i've had to yell at him to come and get his f***ing dog!!! I'm so p*ss*d off right now. He only apologised when I asked what would happen if my kids were in between, or if Jess had been an old ladies Yorkie? and how he was so stupid.

What are they doing to make them so aggressive? i've know loads of them previously to be nice animals, not bolting and attacking other dogs?
And it can't be the first time, why are they off the lead like that in the street?

Complete idiots and the muppets are the exact type giving the breed a bad name at the same time. I feel quite sorry for the dog most as I can't pull Jess off and let it bite away at her if they don't help me, and on both occasions i'm pretty sure she would have killed it if I lost grip (or a finger)

Tucking lower canines into upper lips?

Dylan does this sometimes, though I can't pinpoint at what stimulus, or what it means.

Basically his lower elongated canines tuck into the upper lip, making his lips puff out. It looks hilarious, and my partner and i cannot help but giggle when he does it.

Sometimes he does it just on one side as well, which is equally humorous. I wonder if it means anything though, or if it is just one of his quirks.

We took Sienna to the local lakes today and we met a Border Collie Pup on a lead who was very lively and was jumping all over her face.
Normally she wouldnt react but this time she barked , grumbled and lunged at the pup once, which went and hid behind her owner.
Then it came back towards her calmly and Sienna was fine sniffing each others noses again.
The owner was fine and said her pup needed telling, but Sienna has never done this before.
I was just wondering if anyone knows why she did this. Was it just a warning that she didnt like to be climbed on over her face? Normally she would shy away if she didnt like another dogs behaviour towards her as she is wary.
