Anyone know how to get rid of the smell?

This is a lovely slightly embarrassing subject but I am sure all my doggy friends on here will be understanding.

For those who dont know I have a 12 year old bitch who has been quite poorly over the last year but is thankfully doing quite well now. Anyway during the time she was ill she kept messing in the dining room, both pee and poo. She now sees this as her "en-suite" as my hubby calls it. Despite washing it thoroughly on every occaision and disinfecting it the smell is still terrible. I know ultimately the carpet (the only place in the house still with carpet!) needs chucking but I am trying to leave it for a while, both money and in case she becomes incontinent again.

Does anyone have any magic solutions to getting rid of the smell.

Thanks

Tracy

Not sure what you've used to clean the carpet but have you thought about renting one of the professional carpet cleaning machines, not sure how much they are, I can also ask my father in law tomorrow when he comes round as he works for a company that maintains those sort of machines and they supply cleaning chemicals as well. Glad she is feeling better at the moment though.

Regards

Ian

Expensive I know but maybe move house and let someone else sort it out

That probably didn't help much

Thanks Ian that would be great. I have a Vax carpet cleaner and every time I wash the carpet it smells lovely for about 2 days and then the smell comes back. I have washed it on my hands and knees with a scrubbing brush and Zoflora disinfectant and the combination of the strong sweet smell of the zoflora and the pee was even worse!!!

My hubby has insisted on locking Sami out of the dining room at night now. It is making me feel terribly guilty but to be fair she doesn't seem that bothered and she doesn't mess anywhere else.

No Ian that didn't help!!! We have been "renovating" this house for about 5 years and I am fast begining to think that I will never get to enjoy it finished, I reckon as soon as it is finished we will end up selling it!!

My father in law has taken a real dislike to things like vax and dyson ever since he started working for this company, I think its because he knows he can borrow an industrial machine any time he wants and has got used to how much better those are than the domestic appliances. I'll see what he says. Where abouts are you as his company is in Letchworth but they do send stuff nationally

Regards

Ian

We are in Cheadle, Staffordshire which is just down the road form Alton towers!! Thanks Ian. I know the Vax things are nowhere near as good as the proffessional ones but this one was only £35 from Netto!!

I've cleaned up dog squits from carpet successfully with this method. The biological enzymes are needed to get rid of the smell so the dog doesn't go there again.

Use biological washing powder. Dissolve a teaspoon in a mug of hot water - increase the quantity if you need to but keep measures the same.

Scrub the area(s) with a bristle brush and pat dry with towel to absorb water. Allow to air dry. Repeat if you do the sniff test and it's still there.
