Thank you Charlie,..I will change, I have used the material ones, but only at the vet twice I think,.. I always have one in case of a rescue dog,.. but I will take the advice and will get a basket muzzle,... thanks

Your Sam sounds exactly like my Diesel!

I have a basket muzzle and I too had black and blue legs where he wanted me to take it off him.

I have introduced Diesel to Dogs on a long line and muzzle with a trainer - then with Diesel the muzzle can come off - now I know the signs and know when to tell him to leave and come away but it has taken an awful lot of practice and nerves (on my part!)

I dont think you can let a dog off lead with a muzzle on - as they must be in control (I'm sure someone will tell mne if I'm wrong!)

The basket muzzle is the best as for the reasons stated by Charlie.

It will get better - trust me. Diesel will now not react if the dog is calm and relaxed and will now tell the other dog off if too boisterous without biting. I still have to watch him though - but the serious training only began in April and he too was 2 in March this year.

Hi

I use a muzzle on Barney, if I think he is gonna come into contact with other dogs. I do let him off lead with it on, for me, there would be no point using it if he was on lead.

We are going to training classes on a Thurs night, where he is as good as gold, we don't need the muzzle, but he needs it when we walk every day.

xx

Thanks for that message. It was what i needed to hear, looks like were in the same boat.
I am going to use and see how we get on, think its better to be safe than sorry, otherwise if i keep taking Sam away from other dogs he will think other dogs are bad.
