Our boy goes into kennels when we go away. It's generally for week and a half max at a time and they have a cattery next door which houses our puss. We use the same one as we did with our last GSD and I am completely happy with them. He also get's a 'wash, cut and blowdry' whilst there as they have a parlour.
Hubs and I do get emotional when we leave them but it's not for long, and they seem perfectly happy on return and happy to go back.
They even get a Christmas card

Do you fancy a trip down under? I hate putting my dogs in the boarding kennels. When I was in the UK my mum would always look after them. Ella-Bella is always at my side and I feel like the worse person in the world. Arch always cries when he's taken away and I always drive away in floods of tears. My husband now takes them.
I have to say though that when I collect them they are always in really good condition and I can tell Ella-Bellas had her medication as she wobbles if she hasn't been receiving it. My vet recommened the one we currently use.
Brisbane has a lovely climate and I live by Manly which is a bayside suburb. Winter (August) daytime temperature is around 20 but it can go as low as 3C for about two weeks in August - but this is only at night.
Am I selling it to you lol????

Kennels.
I always use to put Max & Skye in Kennels 2 - 3 times a year, & I cried every time I left them.
Although now with Harvey & Heidi I left them once for 4 days in Kennels when they were about 8 months old, & since then I have vowed never to put them in Kennels again, I get too upset. I say to myself "if they were human kids, would I put them in a childrens home whilst I had a holiday" the answer being "no way". So for the last 2 years all our holidays have been in the UK, & the family stays together.
Thats just my personal decision, I dont blame anyone who does put their Dog in kennels, that their decision.
Jenny.

Very Informative. I wish I had found this forum earlier.
I had Lucy 4 months before I had to go out of town for business. I only had 4 days to find a place for her. Most of the more pampering kennels were well out of my price range, but I found one that had everything I thought I was looking for. A staff member showed me around and I felt comfortable with the suroundings. When I picked up Lucy a week later, the owner told me she was very intimidated by the other dogs.
It didn't take me long to see what she meant. The next day, she lunged at a man walking by us on the street and she went balistic at the very sight of another dog. She never made a sound before. I am still trying to break her of this and its been 8 months. She sounds like she wants to tear the other dog apart, but she justs wants to say hello.
What really angered me was the staff never gave her the 'comforts of home' I sent with her. Now, when I go out of town, my mother stays at my home or she goes with me.

Lucy that's really sad to hear.
When Clay goes in to his usual holiday home he gets fuss at reception as we book him in and then we walk him down to his designated kennel (which in all honesty always reminds me of American films where the 'new inmate' is watched as he makes his way to his cell) but then we go in with him, make up his bed and get his toys out. We leave the food with the girls that work there (along with all the chews), sort out the puss (just as fussed over) and then stifle tears on the way out, all the time knowing that they are being well cared for.
Sorry to hear your experience was so bad. As Jenny said at least you don't have to go back.
Cec.

finding the right boarding kennel for Louie
Hi, I have to go to Poland in a few weeks for a wedding and im really struggling trying to find a good boarding kennel for Louie, He has never been apart from me since he was a puppy and i need to find a good kennel that he will enjoy.
My parents had a german shepherd who they would occasionally board and he loved it, they reccommended i use a kennel that boards mainly german shepherds, but i carnt find one in Sussex. he is a good boy, but he can be boisterous with other dogs which some smaller breeds dont like.
can anyone help me, I live in Sussex but dont mind travelling for a good place for him to stay.
thanks
