Question My brown grass!

Hi, just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem as me and if there is anything i can do..........Max likes to pee up things as most boys do, but because he pee's up my flower pots, my bird feeder and my bench which are all on my lawn, i have big brown dead patches of grass, i have moved them around but that means more brown patches and the grass dosent seem to recover. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Jayne x

Sassysmum will become famous soon enough
I have tried and tested everything and nothing works. I just pull out the dead grass, pop a bit of compost in and put new seed on it. It's a never ending job but hey my lawns mainly green

Make sure that anything tall, like plant pots are either surrounded by, or placed on gravel,.. you can make it quite a feature, and is easier to keep weeds from growing around the base of the pots,..and dog pee doesnt harm anything

You know, that's interesting. I was under the impression that only female dogs' wee killed off grass. The only time Archie has ever killed grass is when he was on a short course of Rimdyl, and that made the grass shrivel up and turn black-blue-grey, almost as if it had been coated in tar, a couple of days after he went to the loo. Weird and gross. We now have patches of bare dirt where he went while he was on Rimadyl.

The section of lawn where we used to keep Archie is the greenest bit of lawn we have, and it always grows twice as fast as anywhere else, even though we moved him off it more than a year ago. What do you feed Max? I've noticed that Archie's ability to fertilise a lawn changes with what he eats. Most effective lawn fertiliser we ever fed him was Nutro, but he hated it and his tummy never really adjusted. Next most effective was homemade. Least effective, thus far, has been Royal Canin, but it still does work at least a little bit.

I would agree with Stuart. Make a bit of a lawn feature with some gravel, ought to sort the problem.

Can you not train him to go in a specific area? We have a lawn and patio and sides that are gravelled; the dogs aren't allowed to go on there... but the end of the garden where the kennel & run is, is a wild area with trees so that's their area.

When we first got Zee she would wee anywhere, but now she goes in the right place.

Another tip is just to keep a watering can handy and drench the area after they've wee'd to dilute the acid in the wee - only if you catch them at it though!

Hi,

There is a product called 'dog rocks' which you buy and put in their waterbowl which is supposed to help. Never tried it myself so have no idea how effective it is. Has anyone else on here tried it?

ive tried dog rocks and green-um tablets with little or no success. interestingly i always thought only un-spayed bitches killed grass but i found that when we have spayed dogs in the past its is just as bad if not worse!

This is already happening to our grass, OH hates it. Years ago before she was pts we had a spayed boxer who did the same, we tried the lawn rescue stuff which didnt work.

I was in pets at home the other day and saw some dog treats that were meant to stop this, dont know whether to give them ago.
