Thumbs up Police

Hi, I wondered if this has happened to any other owners on here. Every time I'm walking my dogs on the main street in my village and a Police Dog van goes by, the officers inside smile and wave at me!

As though "Ooh look GSDs, helloo!"

It's happened several times now, and i don't know if it's the same van but I always wave back!

Yeh we get this here too, and also, so far I have never had a policeman walk past me on foot without them stopping, stroking the woofers and asking their ages etc, I think its a policeman thing Anni, or if they are in unmarked cars they wave xx

Oh yes all the time!

I walk Diesel where sometimes some of the dog handlers excercise their dogs. On one occasion I got there and there were 3 GSD's and police dog handlers already on the field. I thought Oh no please dont play up Deez - I asked him to get out of the car and sit and then heel all the way to the other part of the field and luckily he did - I got a wave from the police and he shouted great dog you have there obviously well trained!

If only they knew.........................

Ha yes I get the same thing. We have an HQ for the police at the bottom of the town centre, I walk past there with Diesel and I had 3 around him fussing him. I was told by one that "these dogs are fantastic, they save our lives"....made me a very proud GSD owner.

Tedsmum will become famous soon enough
I was once parked in a car park next to a lady who had had her car window broken and her handbag stolen. When I returned to my car with Ted two police officers were there. When they saw us they both came over to me and immediately started to fuss Ted and ask me about him, completely ignoring the poor lady who had called them in the first place.
There definately seems to be some sense of comradeship that police officers have towards GSD.

We used to get this a lot when Max was a pup and we were out with him. Also got asked a couple of times if we wanted to donate him to the police force.

I get this all the time, even when the dog van had his siren on he still stopped and pipped his horn and waved before carrying on. When Storm was alive they were still asking for him when he was 7yrs old even though they knew his age, they wanted him for their breeding programme, even though they had his brother.
