At least the Dogs Trust don't put healthy dogs down.

What about boarding kennels? But if you do try boarding kennels ask to get paid for your time!!!

Thanks for the heads up. I'd hate to have to put a dog down... I don't think i could do it in honesty. I've not heard about boarding kennels actually. I will google it. However is there any information you can give me?

Personaly I would try hard for a rescue center, these centers usually need every bit of help they can get, from feeding, or walking, to cleaning or advertising.

....but there is also a down side,..if you go for a rescue then you are going to see some horrible sights, you may see cruelty on a big scale,.. just be prepared for it if it comes your way

I hope you find your job,... we need you
No worries Stuart.
I will look around for a rescue centre, too.

Thanks for the heads up again. You've give me advice on a few occasions which I thank you for.

Great idea, do keep us posted with how you get on.

I wouldn't go to the RSPCA personally.

I'll try my best.
I never really wanted to choose the RSPCA. As I've mentioned, Dogs Trust is more my thing.

Good on you for volunteering.
The Dogs Trust do some wonderful work and, unlike the RSPCA, they never put a healthy dog to sleep.
Personally I would not give the RSPCA anything, not even a phone call.

The reason why DT don't put healthy dogs to sleep is because they pick and choose which breeds to rescue... Usually they choose the easy to rehome dogs... Which would explain a lot...

I think that is a bit unfair.

Take a look through any of their rehoming centre dogs - there are lots that could not be classed as 'easy' to rehome, tons of Staffie's, lots of older dogs (like a 10 year old GSD), along with lots of cross breeds and mongrels. They also have dedicated behaviourists working to help retrain 'difficult' dogs - the RSPCA would just put them to sleep instantly (the managers in their centres would anyway).

They also have 'The Sanctuary' for the dogs they cannot place in 'normal' homes. This is taken from their site:

"The Sanctuary

Some of our dogs prefer not to live with people and these live in our sanctuary.

This large secure field with shelter, allows dogs to roam and form natural relationships within the group.

The dogs here are happy, content and living a life free of the stresses with which they have shown they cannot cope. They are fed regularly, health-checked and have human interaction with two dedicated carers."

I would rather work for (and support) the Dogs Trust any day.

Sue
