Thank you all

I just would like to say a big thank you to all the lovely people on here that left such kind words and being so supportive about how i lost my dog to degenerative myelopathy which in my confused and upset state i put on the post as DG instead DM

When i was writing the post i was so down and in tears half the time but i just needed to express how i was feeling , i felt alone and as though part of me had gone now that my dog Elsa was no longer here

I had taken the day off work and didnt know what to do , so i looked for a GSD forum and found this site , maybe it was luck or maybe it was fate that i did pick this one ?

What i do know is that as i kept popping back on the site and checking on replies to the post through the day , each time i read your lovely replies and heard how some of you were in tears reading my story i too would breakdown again sometimes BUT i then realised i wasnt alone and people did care and those simple words that you left me meant so much to me at this time , i began to feel better with each reply as i realised i had done the best thing for Elsa and yes we had been good for each other , i hadnt let her down and that in fact i had saved her from being reduced to a degrading site which in the end would have made matters worse for both of us

So again thank you as YOU have made me feel so much better today

Bill x

I just read your thread and it made me feel so sad for both you and your GSD. I'm glad you gave her the love she deserved and I hope that while you don't forget her, you don't feel sad at all when remembering her - only happy.

You are amongst dog lovers who more than understand!
Gotta agree with Liam though, when you feel a bit brighter I would also love it if you shared some stories of your handling days and would love to see some pics of Max.
How is Max coping with the loss Bill?

We ALL understand what it's like to lose our best furry friend, and we all genuinely feel your pain.

Sometimes it helps to talk to people who are not going to tell you "Pull yourself together!" If you need to talk, rant, weep, we're here to listen.

Aww bless ya! I know it's tough letting go and knowing that you made the right decision, but it helps loads to hear other people telling you that you did make the right decision and you did do your best.

I know from experience as i had to have my soul mate put to sleep over 4 years ago as he had a splenic tumour and i felt so guilty and lost but everyone on here was fab and really helpful. X

There will be a day when you feel happy about talking about your girl and sharing your stories and smile when you think of her instead of welling up and crying, i promise. X

I think of my boy every day still even though i have 3 new fur friends and i miss him still but it is easier to deal with now, the others help me lots just the way Max will help you through this. X

How is he coping with her loss?

Yep. And those who say 'It's only a dog'

It's only a beautiful creature who has shared your life for x number of years, who was always there for you, who never judged you, who gave total loyal devotion for so little in return, who made you laugh out loud and who stole your heart..

You know they will never understand the bond you had.. it's like losing a member of your family.

To those people who have never been a dog owner they will never, ever be able to come close to understanding the amount of grieving us dog owners go through when our dogs leave us.
You came to a forum where many, if not all, of us have gone through the worst part of dog ownership, which is (I think)...the part when we have to make the decision to let them go. Grieving takes time to deal with and for some of us it can take longer than for others. So at any time if you need to babble away about how you are feeling then this is the forum where you will get loads of support.
