Does anyone cycle with their dog??

What are your opinions on cycle attachments and cycling with your dog?? Just looking at other ideas of ways to stimulate and excercise the boys and was considering buying a cycle attachment so they could go out with me on my bike?! (one at a time of course )

What would you lot advise? Do any of you do this and how do you get on? What attachments do you have?

sorry for the quizzing but just curious?! X

Really interested in this myself!!

My 2 are too old now but I am thinking about it for the future. I had said I wouldnt have another dog after these becasue I have hip, knee and back problems so didnt think it would be fair to the dog if I couldnt walk it in a few years but I can cycle so was thinking the same thing!!

Well i have palandramic rheumatoid arthritis so have the odd day when my knees and shoulders are really inflamed and was thinking cycling is a little less intense on my joints so thought it might be an idea for them? X

My OH did this with Diesel, he would walk to the park pushing the bike and then let Diesel off lead to run along next to him. He found that Diesel would stick with him and ignore all other dogs and found off lead the best way so that if Diesel got tired then he could slow up....xx

Sully Monster will become famous soon enough
I cycle with Sull. I put the bike rack on the car and drive somewhere and off we go. I dont have an attatchment tho - he is just free running. At first I was worried that I might go to fast - who was I kidding, I had to peddle like the wind to keep up with him lol I do try to alter the pace depending on how tired he is but he loves it. I just have to be careful when he runs in front of the bike. I also "pull over" and recall him in if we see other walkers or cyclists. I think an attatchment would see me spending more time being pulled off then anything else

I've cycled with Remus alongside no problem. Just nudge him with my foot of he gets too close. But you can get attachments to thread the lead through, its a tube fixed to the bike to keep the dog a certain distance away. Bit safer. I wouldn't cycle with Zee, she's all over the place - running's bad enough!

Thanks everyone, may order an attachment and give it a try. I think Matrix would love it, not sure about the other 2 but i think they will like it, just have to give them a go. I don't trust Blade enough at presant off lead to run him with me like you guys do!

Think Logan may need me to dangle his ball in front of him to give him a reason to 'bother' to run!! LOL ..... bit like the donkey and carrot game!! hehe

Oh dear!! Maybe it isn't such a good idea for me to try then!

Which one did you buy Sarah? I have been looking a a couple of different ones, one that attaches under the seat with a straight bar with a lead at the end and one that attaches to the side of the wheel with a spring to apparently stop them being able to pull you sideways?! Not sure whether to try or not?!
