Tedsmum will become famous soon enough
In case of emergency?

Am I the only person who thinks about these things?

We went down to a show in Plymouth on Thursday night and obviously had to leave Ted for a few hours. We don't go out of town much without him, but it occured to me, we are on the motorway and what if something terrible happened to us both? Ted would be left at home, perhaps no one knowing he was alone for days if it was a weekend. Sadly it was a situation that was reinforced by the tragic accident not too far from here on the M5 the very next day.
So what I did was told my best friend (who has a key) that we were out and that I would phone when we got in.
He doesn't mind at all and I have given him instructions on what to do if he should find himself the proud owener of Ted.
But does this seem OTT to you guys?
What do you do, or has it never occured to you?

BTW, part of his instructions is to get on here and ask you lot for advice on what to do. I thought it would be the best place as you guys know Ted and could help him with rehoming etc.

Sorry to be morbid.

Not OTT at all.

This is something that really worries me as well. We have a couple of people that have a door key, one of which is a neighbour. I hope they would notice if the car wasn't there, no lights on in the house etc but the dogs could have been on there own for hours.

What do people do?

Our neighbour has had a key for our place for years, he used to let himself in when we were at work to watch Sky telly,.. he would see to the dogs if we could not get home for whatever reason

We are also in what we call the Thistle scheme, where by our dogs are looked after, and rehomed by the rescue as a matter of course

German Shepherd Rescue Thistle scheme >>> German Shepherd Rescue Scotland Thistle Care Scheme - Please look after my German Shepherd if I die

I know my mum, sister or brother would take on my dogs but I also have a lot of friends with GSD`s too who`d probably want to take them in.

I have thought about this too and my inlaws live near by and have a key so they wouldn't be alone of long. As for who would take them well it's be my parents or my friends.

I thought about this the other day! As awful as it sounds, there are so many accidents nowadays (rip to all those inolved in the M5 tragedy) you just never know!

At the moment no one has a key to our home, only us, but certainly after reading this thread, we will be getting two more keys cut, 1 for family and possibly another for a neighbour (we have only been here 6 mths, but feel we can trust one neighbour, he is an elderly gentleman, he even came knocking on our door a month or so back, he'd noticed our bin was still out and the car was still on the drive, so he got concerned, much appreciated, so much so, we both look out for one another now)

It's not morbid at all - it's sensible. I don't think anyone would have my Lukey. I would ask our daughter to re-home him with a German Shepherd Rescue - live in the North of England - is there one anywhere in the North/North East. I wouldn't let him go to the RSPCA.

It is sad to think about it but..........

I Live in Grimsby North East and I dont know of one but would consider looking after Lukey if the worst happened!

Its terrible thinking about these things but its a must!

RIP to all those who lost their Lives and Sympathys to the Families

My Hubby (yes got married on sat ) would look after the dogs yet working full time he would seek help from a sitter/walker) my Son would help too.

In the event we both died and my Family couldnt help I would rather my animals PTS than fall into to the hands of the R$PCA.

I will include this in my will and make it known.
