Feet long coat GSD
Hi
Should I trim the feathering between Lukey's toes. I feel I should as it is getting longer esp since he has been castrated, all coat seems to be growing more.
I used to trim my S Spaniels toe feathering.
Do you do any trimming on your long coat just for comfort?
Thanks
Linda

Sheba, my previous GSD was long coated and I used to trim her feet as she used to get matted balls of hair right in the middle between the pads, which made her quite uncomfortable. Less hairy feet also made for less mud and muck carried in from outside! We used to call her yeti-feet as she had so much hair on them. I would also occasionally trim her trousers - mainly because she frequently got a dodgy tum and it was easier to keep them clean.

I used to trim the hair on by BCs feet, and the GSD x Collie. They'd get really matted & hard otherwise & it'd be painful for them if they were left too long.

Thanks, my feeling is I should trim - his trousers are a 'so n so' to groom. His fur is so dense round there (on the sides mainly) it is hard to get to skin - he has what I would call a rough coat

hi I used to trim the hair between Bair's toes and her knickers lol ! she had a fine pair of bloomers and I just couldnt keep them under control without a little trim now and again , in the summer I would clip her belly off too , just right underneath so if u looked at her from the side u couldnt see it , I think it helped to keep her cool Lx

If you are going to trim you GSD, I would recommend thinning scissors.

Jazz has long hair between her pads, but the only time it causes a problem is in the snow, the snow can pack up in there and get really very hard, and the first time it happened I saw her limping a bit.
I used to trim it, but I dont any more, I just make sure I check her feet often, or make sure she licks the snow out herself which she does often when we are in the hills
This same hair can also be very usefull, it help a great deal when walking on ice, she doesnt often slip around
