HB I've had this before with Buster, the %age goes up each year as does the excess, be careful mate

We started off at 10% of vets fees, which increased to about 45% by the time we lost him + monthly premium more than trebled AND excess increased AS WELL AS contribution to vet's fees

Same here Tracey although the quotes I am getting are around the level I was paying for Max with Petplan when he was 10, only John Lewis seems cheap with a decent level of cover. Seems prices have shot up.

Oo that's mean of your insurance company not to budge. Mind you I haven't tried negotiating with a pet insurance but every other insurance company has handed me over to their 'loyalty team' when I have asked and they have always reduced.

does your present insurer ask anything extra towards the older dogs if they are ill?

if you break down your cover you will be surprised about the number of things you are paying for you dont really need/want

Hi Helen

Assuming you would have a similar excess on both policies (apart from the 15% with the new company) you could assume a certain amount of vets fees over the period of a year.

Say the total amount you were claiming for over a period of a year came to a total of £3000 across all 7 dogs then you would be required to pay 15% which is £450 assuming the 15% was calculated before the excess was paid. If the excess was taken off first then that amount would be less than £450.

If you were claiming £5000 across all 7 dogs then 15% would be £750 which just about cancel any gains out if I remember your original post.

Someone else feel free to see if I have calculated this right.

Hope this helps - at least it shows you one angle on it.

Linda

Rory will need to stay with Direct Line to continue to be insured, costing £37.50 a month

The other are all fine and have nothing to declare so I may still change them over
