Google GSD clubs and find one in your area that trains in ringcraft.

They will have show dates. You can enter when your dog is 6 months old but get training now. It's not as simple as standing the dog, you need to get it gaiting properly.

Who did you get your dog from?

Shows aren't really starting up again until March time now though lol!

I'd probably only enter him in breed shows not general shows.

In any case, if you're new to showing yourself it's best to start in open shows rather than go straight to champ shows. GSDs are usually shown using a handler so perhaps speak to your breeder to find out which ones they're going to and maybe they'll take your pup in for you.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but how do you know you're pup shows promise? We all think our dogs are gorgeous , but knowing what a judge wants is a different thing altogether. Also they change a lot from 5 months to adulthood.

Like I say, open shows are probably the way to start then you'd have a judge's opinion, just make sure you choose a breed specialist who likes the right type of dog

Well I think you did good at the companion show, there's no reason on earth why you can't show your own dog

You do need to get to ringcraft though, you'll learn so much, but we all learn as we go along so good luck + keep letting us know how you get on

Start off with open shows. You'll learn a lot from them.

Are you sure that you've done the right training? GSDs are shown very differently from other breeds - there are looooong periods of gaiting at quite a fast pace, and you'll have to be watching the judge, your dog, and all the other dogs in the ring as well!

You can start showing from 6 months in the UK, but as already said, most of the shows are finished now for the year & won't start up till march-ish.

Good for you showing your own dogs, but remember we can all learn something no matter how much we know already, none of us know everything
