Angry Cat on lead!

The other week I went to Battersea Park in London with my son and Maya,is a big park and is very popular with dog walkers.I saw a couple in the distance walking what I though a small dog but when I got closer I realized it was a Cat .luckily maya was on lead and she did not see it otherwise it would have been a disaster.but what a stupid thing to do to walk a cat on lead in a busy park with lots of dogs running around!!

Ha ha, you have to laugh at that! it is a very silly thing to do in a place with lots of dogs though.

There's a lady at our vet who rescues ferrets, and she walks them on a lead!

It wasn't this incredibly brave cat was it?!

The annoying thing about this though is that if something did happen.........the blame would be placed on the dog (and owner)

Now although everyone has their right to walk where they want to walk with cat, ferret, rabbit, hippopotamus or whatever... i think it a tad silly to place yourself in the firing line by going to a park full of dogs.

If Maya was off lead and saw the cat before me she would have went for it for sure...

Please teach Maya not to chase cats! She might one day chase a feral cat into a road with disastrous results! But I do agree it is a little silly to take a cat into a park full of dogs!

Easy to say!
My dog lives with two cats who he is gentle and kind to.
His recall is mostly excellent under most circumstances including calling him away from play with other dogs.
BUT.............
As well trained as he is, I seriously doubt I could actually stop him from a full on chase of prey situation (including cats). Once on the chase it is soooo hard to stop, especially a dog who has a high prey drive. My dog will chase anything that moves, even leaves blown by the wind accross the pavement.
That is why I would never let him walk off lead in an urban area. But in a park I think it is madness to take any small critter there and so uncessary. Cats do not need to be exercised on leads, it is obviously just a "Look at Me" stunt.

I have to agree with Gill, Diesel's recall is fantastic but after one incident one evening when he was attacked by a feral one, it came out of the dark and went for his tail repeatedly, poor lad was terrified Im not sure he'd be able to avoid the want to chase.

i regularly meet a lady out walking her gsd, when she goes out, her two cats trot along behind her.

maddie is not keen, but it must look entertaining when we have a polite chat while madster is eyeing up her cats.
