Tessa concerned for my Son...
So this evening, Tessa accidentally knocked my 11mth old son down. Heard his head hit the tile and then he started whaling. She iimmediately turned around, concerned and layed down next to him. her ears went back and she didn't move because she knew what she did. I think she felt bad. She waited for me to tell her to come and and reassure her it was ok. What a smart dog and she's only 5mos. old. By the way My son is ok. Has anyone experienced their gsd show this kind of emotion at such a young age?

Yes - my darling Arch once knocked my mum over. He was so concerned - bless him. It's one of the reasons why I love the breed - their intelligence

Not at such a young as age as Jack is my first pup but I remember my first rescue, Del, was amazing with my mum when she was terminally ill with cancer. We had brought mum home from the hospice for her last christmas and I was a bit concerned as Del was only 18 months old and very boisterous still. It used to be a bit of a mission to stop him barging up to people he knew and liked when I was still working on him but he gave her a quick sniff (I swear he could smell that she was dying) and just laid down against her chair. And wouldn't let any visitors he didn't know near her. It was the only time time he showed anything bordering on aggression to a person. He didn't go for them or anything, just rumbled and flashed his teeth until she put her hand on him and said it was ok.

Aww what lovely stories!
Diesel is such a gent and with my recently passed Grandad (he was wheelchair bound) one day I took him round to see him & Nan, Grandad was bedridden and Diesel ran into his room and just placed his head on the bed to allow Grandad to stroke him, normally he would jump up onto the bed, Grandad couldn't reach to stroke him so he gently put his front paws on the edge of the bed, stood up and moved his head closer.....tbh I had tears in my eyes seeing this, so gentle..x

If either of my two knock my son over (he's 13 months), they automatically know they've done wrong (other than when they're ready to walk lol - then they don't give a hoot who's in the way), and Jack my son also lets them know in no uncertain terms that it wasn't nice lol. (just like if he wants the toy the dog's holding, if they keep hold of it, he will scream at them in a really specific scream and they immediately drop what they're holding lol)

Yep, Ted was only 7 months old when he met our 18mth old grandaughter for the first time.
He was a whirling mad puppy who was clumsy and mouthed a lot at that age but he never once mouthed or knocked her over.
He wouldand still does follow her everywhere and thinks she is fascinating, but somehow seems to know he has to be more careful around her.
She is 4 now and they are still the best of pals.
Remarkable breed we have here you know x

Thank you! Yes, I agree this breed is amazing and so intelligent! You couldn't ask for a better breed that's for sure.
