As I see it both dogs off lead, no control over the one who came running over dogs will be dogs tell the other person to pay there own vets bill and teach the recall x

You were too quick to admit liabilty and pay for something that I don't see as being your dig's fault. She was just standing there sniffing. If another dog came running towards her, with the intent to attack her, then she was just reacting to the threat.

I agree with both. If other people can't control their own dogs then that's their look out - they shouldn't be off lead. Although I can understand that you were sorry the other dog got bitten, it wasn't your fault & you really shouldn't have paid up.

Welcome to the forum,... agree with the others, I would not have been so quick to pay the vets bill, if your dog was with you, and was attacked from an in coming dog, then your dog was defending itself.
Of course the problem you would have had if you were challanged would have been,.. how could you prove that your dog was in control, and not out of control and off lead, like the other dog

But in that case, you'd both be held equally to blame & you still wouldn't have had to pay any vets bills.
