Failed foster!
I am afraid we had to give up after all.
A big thank you to you all for your tremendous support but it was just too stressful for all of us and Max has gone back tonight.
In a nutshell he is a fantastic dog with people and loved us both, he was calm indoors too, but he just hated Ted. He had several more pops at him last night so we went out on a late lead walk with them both the try and calm them down. But Ted was just terrified of him and slunk around with his belly close to the floor. I hardly slept all night with worry.
We crated Max last night for safety but this morning it all kicked off again in the same way. Even after another walk to sap energy it was the same when we returned to the house.
I know that it maybe would have improved with time but it was breaking my heart to see Ted so scared and put down in his own home. It also appeared like the incidents were getting more serious each time.
We explained all to the rescue and she was very understanding.
We tried but it was just not the right mix.
Feel a bit upset by it all really as you would expect.
Once again , thanks for your support.

Bless ya. Sorry it didn't work out Sometimes things are just not meant to be. At least you know it wasn't Ted's fault, so fostering is always an option with the right dog in the future
Years ago when we just had Jess, we fostered a GSD (called Jessie lol) and she sounded like Max with Ted, and Jess was too scared to come into the same room and slunk around, and we gave up after 3 days as Jess was really affected by Jessie and it just wasn't fair, so I know exactly what you're going through

Never think you've failed, Max wasn't the right dog for your home and you're right you cannot have Ted scared in his own home, he absolutely has to come first.
Try not to feel down about this, Ted loves him Mum and that's whats important...xxx

At least now the rescue can find him somewhere more suitable, can you imagine what would have happened if you had adopted him instead?
Sounds like its been a learning curve for all concerned and thats as much a good thing as anything else.

You can hold your head high for offering him a place in the first place.
Sounds to me like you did right by both dogs so don't beat yourself up.... the right dog will come and i bet Ted will love him/her to bits!
chin up hun!

Please dont beat yourself up about returning Max to rescue, you tried but he obviously was not the dog for you.I know that when i got Jess we had a week of dog fights and i was at my wits end and genuinely felt that i would have to find her a new home.I so desperately wanted them all to get along but Jess and shey had other ideas. Thankfully matters resolved themselves but we still have the odd spat that turns nasty and i have to be so vigilant.
Teds happiness and well being is paramount and you did the right thing for your family.
Sometimes things just wont work out no matter what you do, the right dog will come along in time and it will all work out just as you want it.
Best of Luck and have a lovely xmas.

Hi as the rest have said it does not allways work out.We tried a rescue with highway but he was to dominent for her so we got a puppy so that he didn't feel the threat of another dog and that has worked out.Good on you for trying but its the best for ted aswell

Don't think that you have failed! It wasn't meant to be this time round, but at least you tried!! Well done, you did everything right, including returning Max. At least the rescue have a better understanding if his temperament now!
Give Ted a big hug from me, sending love to you too! Xx
