Average age for first season

Afternoon everyone!

Roxy is just over 8 months old and was just wondering what the average age is when bitches come into season for the first time.

I know there is not an exact age as every dog is different but hoped if some of you guys would share with me your girls age when she had her first season.

Treated her to her first professional groom yesterday. Took her a while to settle down but she had a good wash and was good in the tub but didn`t like the dryer, was horrible to hear her cry to have her looking at me as if to say "get me out of here" but we gradually got most of her body dried but I finished her with a towel, good thing was she only charged me half the price because she was still wet Had her nails clipped and her fuzzy bum fluff all trimmed, didn`t mind all that, just a problem with the dryer, its not the noise that bothers its the actual air she don`t like, something to work on.

Cheers

Matt

My girl was a bit of an odd one, she didn't have her first season until she was 18 months! And because she was so late having her first, the vet wanted her to have another before spaying her. She finally had her second season when she was nearly 5 years old! Then she had a split season! Nightmare!!!! Needless to say I was glad when she was done!!! But she was a complete freak, in more ways than one. I think about 8 months is the norm!

Thanks for the replies.

I thought now would be around the average time so its just a case of waiting.

Did you notice any change in behaviour leading up to the time?

I have no intention of breeding her so will be getting her spayed once I`ve sat down for a week and read through when is the best time and spoken to several vets.

Glad we got old carpets

My Diva was 7.5 months when she started her first season, and had a second only 4 months later! We then waited 2 months and had her spayed. Best thing ever!! The seasons were not that bad but you have to contend with blood (so protecting your carpets, sofa, etc..is a must) and restricting your bitch to quiet areas where you are not going to atttact loads of unwanted attention from eager males , and this for 3 weeks!! In my opinion it's best to let Roxy have at least 2 seasons before having her spayed, if thats what you want to do, to allow her to mature.

Must admit we didnt really notice any changes in Diva's behaviour prior to her first season but once it started, she was a bit more clingy than usual and off her food, also looked knackered. But I guess all bitches follow different patterns..

Our baby girl was 8months old with her first.
We didn't have any mess, as she cleaned it all up her self, only her bed got dirty as she got up and down in the mornings.
We just changed the top sheet, popped it in the washer and dryed it every day ( it was white, so I could keep my eye on her)
Good luck with your little girl.
Our baby was very loving and just wanted cuddles, I don't think they know what is going on with their first, jmo.
Hope she goes on alright.

Abi was 14 months old when she first came into season. For the first couple of days she was acting quite weird (a little aggressive)... she even had to be muzzled by the vet as her annual vaccinations were due at the same time. I'm guessing her behaviour must've been something to do with her season as she had always been good at the vets before, and ever since. Then for the first week she was rather clingy... and quite cute. I continued to walk her every day on the lead, but in places I wouldn't expect to bump into other dogs. She was spayed 3 months later.
