Stop Selling dogs on gumtree

I was at my vet last week getting my mad spaniels innoculations. During conversation I asked her if she has seen an increase in Christmas puppies coming through the door. Sadly she said that she had, but that they were mostly gumtree puppies with people saying " I know I shouldn't have....but I did"

To me sites like gumtree are just promoting puppy farms, bad breeding and the theft of dogs. So I had a wee search about and their is actually a face book campaign to try and stop this and a petition which I thought people on here might be keen to sign

So here it is
We call for an urgent review of the laws governing the sale of animals online - e-petitions

I find it so shocking that people can sell animals on gumtree - they may as well put them on eBay. I have signed the petition. x

I know I am going to get blasted for this... but Gumtree is just another medium which can be abused.

It is an excellent resource for people who want a dog that is no longer wanted where it is.

If proper caution is exercised things should turn out no better or worse than dealing through the local newspaper.

I got Anya from Gumtree, but do agree it gets abused. Far too many ways for people to get rid these days.

I hate when even after advising people about the dangers of advertising and putting dogs on for free to a good home or their litter of pups ,they still go ahead and do it...Why is this ? Are they completely and utterly off their trolley's

I was just looking through freecycle at bits and pieces and found this ad....

"our fabulous happy good natured dog is 'in season'. We 'VE recently
moved here, would love to have pups with her, but don't know any
suitable partners! She's just turned four so it's probably her last
chance.... Hence this post.

Not lookin for puppy farms or designer dogs, she's a pedigree but didn't
want to go down xray, blood test route, a dog sized between a cocker
spaniel and Labrador ideal sidewise. Must have a good temperament ."
