When you're ill?

How does your dog react to you?

Whenever I've sneezed Olli has rushed up to me to make sure I've not disappeared like Ms Popov from Rentaghost.

Yesterday I started with a really sore throat which has developed overnight to laryngitis and a load of phlegm (sorry tmi I know) on my chest so I'm sounding not to dissimilar to Darth Vadar at the moment. I've also had a couple of asthma attacks during the night (numpty left the heating on). When I've been coughing, wheezing and using my inhaler Olli has gone mad, barking at me and pawing at me. As if he's been quite frightened. The rest of the time he's not really moved very far away from me and if he has gone away from me he's back to check me within seconds.

I'm now in bed watching masterchef and Olli is layed next to me with his head resting by the side of my chest - he'll get a big shock if I cough suddenly!

How do your dogs react when you're poorly?

Ozzie gets very concerned when I am ill or feeling down. He always knows when I am not right! And he hates being away from me! Doesn't even ask to go for a walk!

Although there is very little reaction to any of our illnesses, [ not that we are ill very often ],... but Kee is always very concerned if I slip while on the hills,..she is never far from me anyway, but if I slip she is there in a flash licking my face, she always seems very concerned

mrs popov. loved rentaghost!!

when i was recovering from my chest infection, she stuck like glue to my side. this was not hard, i was bed ridden

i think she knows when im worried, if im walking her on my own, she tends to stay closer to me.

I`ve not been ill (touches wood) but was having a wee cry the other night and both of them were nudging me and trying to lick me. Maybe they just liked the taste of tears

My uncles GSD Cosworth acted out of the ordinary and would not let anyone in the bedroom when he was stuck in bed for 2 or 3 days one time. He was very wary of people he didn`t know but never acted like this with the rest of the family until that time. He didn`t leave his side and even followed him to the toilet and back. When someone tried to enter the room Cosworth just lept up onto the bed and continued to bark. My uncle was too ill to even try and stop him from behaving like this as children were in the house and people were concerned. They decided to leave Cossie with Paul as removing him may have had severe consequences! Once he was feeling better and was up and about Cosworth went back to being his usual huge loveable softie self.

LOL! Hamish did this - in fact we had to train him out of it because if a guest ever sneezed they instantly had a border terrier stuck to their face! Now he stays on the floor but he always runs up and looks concerned!

Darwin is so loving when anybody feels poorly. He just sits quietly with them, he's very comforting.

Isla doesnt really care at the mo lol! She'd much rather play with her toys!

LindaM will become famous soon enough
I had flu last year and was very poorly and upstairs and didn't see Lukey. If I am just a bit poorly and downstairs he would be very quiet but next to me on the settee (he would be on the floor) and not want to leave my side.

If I am upset or poorly he will stay close even if the room is very hot and he would be more comfortable in the kitchen where it's cool but that's a shepherd for you - loyalty stamped right through them like a stick of Blackpool rock.

Willo hope you feel a bit better soon, sounds quite scarey to me - glad Olli is there for you

nisbreagha has a spectacular aura about
Do hangovers count as illness if so my worst ever hangover was 2 yrs ago up in Lewis we ended up at a few houses after the pub shut one Saturday night as the pubs shut at 11.45 (not allowed to be open past 12 as that's a Sunday!) anyway one house lead to another and finally ours and plenty of the evil drink was consumed probably the most I've ever drank in my life and at 5ish my hubby sent me to bed before I fell into it! The next day I could hardly move as every time I did I had to talk to god on the big white telephone! The dogs never left my side the whole day from being sent to bed till the following morning, the 2 JRTS pinned me to the bed one on either side and Nis lay at the side of the bed checking on me all the time.

They defiantly know when I'm upset as they are all full of cuddles and licks till I cheer up!

What would we do with out them.
