Guard dog entices passers-by

A guard dog from Canton, Cardiff who gets passers-by to play fetch with him has caught the eye of a writer and film-maker. The dog, a two-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd puppy called Mr Dog, is a guard dog at M&R Decorators' Supplies and described as a “fantastic little local celebrity!

Writer Si Stratton became intrigued by Mr Dog on his journey to work in the morning. Walking past the yard, he described how a tennis ball appeared in front of him. “The ball came out, I looked over and saw a dog with his puppy-dog eyes so I threw it back for him and after he caught it, he pushed it out under the gates again,” said Mr Stratton. “He lines the ball up carefully and pushes it out.”

After watching Mr Dog's antics with other passers-by, Mr Stratton, the winner of an award for his screen writing, uploaded a YouTube video of Mr Dog with his ball.

Mr Stratton was keen to point out that Mr Dog has a warm place to go to and plenty of food and water but loves to chase the ball. He said that Sundays are the best days to see Mr Dog.

He now has an idea for a film and is inviting anyone who would like to appear in it, to record themselves throwing the ball for Mr Dog and upload it in response to his YouTube video or send the link to mrdoginbox@gmail.com.

I just hope this lovely lad has a more interesting existence than guarding that place and waiting for a passer-by to throw his ball ... although I suppose that is more than a lot of guard dogs in these type of situations will have

What a resourceful dog, I did notice he had a friend at night so he does have company. Frankly I doubt he's much of a guard dog all you'd need is a few tennis balls and he'd be in heaven

As much as I see the usefulness in guard dogs I do feel, they miss out if they don't get walked and trained, they must get so boarded and frustrated

If anyone broke in, he would probably be more interested in playing ball than stopping a burglar. Bless him.

At least he is able to interact with passers by! A lot of dogs you see, they are just chained up during the day and only ever let off at night and weekends. I think he has a better life that a lot do! He is probably a local celeb now!!

Yes, a lot better life than the average guard dog which I think is very sad.

At least he gets to run around and doesn't have to bark all day coz he is stressed out of his head.

That is sweet, i don’t think anybody needs to worry about his welfare the guy does state the best time to see him is Sundays, i would imagine this is because the other six days of the week he is interacting with his co workers.

Also interesting to see that he could leave any time he likes judging by the gap underneath the gates, he must be happy living there. But I agree his guarding ability could be questionable
