Dog safety harness in car

Don't really want a dog crate in the back of my MPV. What are your views on dog seat belts and harnesses?

I use a dog guard to prevent the two mucksters getting over and onto the backseats so I`ve never used a seat belt for them. Sorry I`m not of any help.

Only used a dog guard but I've been driving my daughter's car today and it does make a difference not having that grill there.

I'm sticking with the grill for the moment though.

I dont know a lot about them, I just could never see any of mine being happy with them,..I guess if a dog is used to one from a pup it may be different, but they just seem to be very restricted in how the dog moves,..almost as if they are expected to sit still like a human.

I have the back seats down and a guard behind our heads

I tend to use the boot area quite a lot so would prefer dog to be on the back bench seat. The harnesses I have been looking at allows the dog to lie down.

I havea seat protector on my back seat to keep it clean(ish) and a belt which clips into the seatbelt buckle. It came with a harness but I dont use the harness, I just clip it to one of the D rings on Isla's training lead so it allows her enough freedom to sit/ lie down and shuffle around but not enough that she can get into the footwells or join me in the front!

I would get a seat protector too. Good idea especially if they are muddy.

As puppies I used them but over time they settled and didnt need them, we have a grate, and a crate.

I got an AA adjustable harness for Zeus when he was a puppy, it allowed him enough movement to sit comfortably or to lie down. He didn't like being on his own in the back of the car at first and he did struggle a little the first few times but soon got used to it.

I tried it on Maisy, she was fine wearing it round the house but it didn't last long in the car....she chewed through the webbing after a few minutes and ended up in my footwell! I didn't bother buying another.

When we all go out we tend to use the van as they prefer to strech out in the back and it doesn't matter if they get fithy while walking.

I've just recently purchased one of these for Oakley. It's easy to put on and links through your seat belt.
