Getting the hard sell.

As most of you know I'm in the market for a puppy. I contacted one particular breeder (dont want to name names) who is also a member of the KC Accredited scheme. Now basically I walked away from her dogs because I wouldn't get a pick, I would have to take a dog that the breeder picked.

Not being happy with this as another breeder I know is prepared to give us first pick from her next litter I am waiting for the next litter.

But I seem to be getting the hard sell from the breeder I walked away from. I told her why we were not interested because of the pick thing but she keeps on and seems to have alot of pups on the go. Am I right to be suspicious?

I dont think that I would like one of the pups picked for me either, this is a dog that is going to be with you many, many years to come, I would at least want to take a look at the litter and pick out a dog that appealed to me,.. thats very reasonable

You have told the other breeder that you are no longer interested, you should only have to do that once, maybe twice in a polite way,... if things continued I would refrain from the conversation,.. no need to be suspicious if you are no longer interested

Well these two breeders know each other as part of the North East Breeder Mafia so that has planted the seed that there's something not right. :|

Maybe she just thinks she will be better at picking a pup that suits you - after all she has observed the litter from birth and will have a much better idea of each pups character. It is very hard to select a pup from a few visits to view the litter.

That would worry me more. How many pups does she have? How many bitches does she keep?

Sue

PS Don't take too much notice of the KC Accredited breeders scheme, it does not mean much and is pretty easy to join.

Well it seems to be every few weeks she is emailing me with another litter, maybe longer than that but she says shes importing them from Germany.

She also says the breeder I am waiting for maybe going to use one of her males in a litter, dont know how true this is. Am in the process of contacting the breeder who has offered us first pick and wildmoor was checking out the pedigree for epilepsy, male stud is clear but waiting to hear on female.

id personally want to pick the puppy myself. i think you can 'just know' if a dog is meant for you or not. if this makes any sense.

I wouldn't want a hard sell from any breeder - are they struggling to sell the pups they are producing if they are having to badger potential owners? Hmmm - doesn't sound right to me.

However, I don't mind a breeder giving me the CHOICE as to whether to choose my own pup, or they could choose for me - but I wouldn't really feel happy being dictated to. With Yogi's breeder I asked if they could choose the pup with the most "oomph" - as I knew they would be familiar with the pups different characters etc. The breeder chose very well, and I am more than pleased with their choice

Hope it all works out with the litter you are interested in.

I am hoping to pick a pup with breeders advice on character but last litter this other breeder tried to sell me a pup that was struggling with weight. She was honest about that but reading between the lines she prefers show homes to get first pick.

To be honest I would ignore the other person, if she hasnt got homes she shouldnt be breeding more, I bet J & G wouldnt be happy if they knew she was badgering you to buy off her when you are in contact with them
